Present the Museum Day admission card to receive free general admission at participating Museum Day locations. The admission card is available in the September 2008 issue of Smithsonian magazine or downloadable via this site.
The following Museum Day restrictions apply: One time use on September 27, 2008 unless otherwise specified. Card must be presented for free general admission. Admission Card will be collected upon entry. General admission only. Does not include entry to special exhibits or IMAX screenings. Admission Card is good for general admission for you plus one guest. One Admission Card per household. Not for use with any other offer. No rain checks. Some participating museums may already have a free admission policy year round and are participating in the "spirit" of the day.
Museums and cultural venues participate in Museum Day voluntarily. Smithsonian magazine encourages museum visitation, but is not responsible for individual museum content or participation.
it's because someone really wanted a t-shirt...I was gonna make a post informing everyone that black friday is on 11/28/08 and link to last years black friday thread but decided against it.

Thanks! It worked. I've printed the admission ticket sucessfully. Now hopefully I won't forget about this in 2 months.
Does anyone know which museum is worth visiting for the Bay Area?

Exploratorium is always a fun one. After that, you can swing by Camera Works out by the Cliff House to finish off the day.

If you've got Gmail calendar, you can set it to send you an email the day before. That's what I'm planning on doing.

It is free. Parking is not. That's how it's always been. However, if you want to go to the Getty Villa (that's the one that just re-opened a few months ago after years of renovation; off the PCH not the Brentwood/Palisades one) then I think it's like $20 or something. Not sure if it too is on the list since I didn't look at the list yet.
well thanks, but not much good for me in Houston. Five "museums" in the Houston area participating, only they're all... well, not what I'd consider a real museum. Children's Museum of Houston, Buffalo Soldiers National Museum, Holocaust Museum Houston, Dunham Bible Museum... Bahhh, and the Heritage Society Museum, all kinda small and very specific (limited) in their exhibits. Thought I might do something cultural for once and the major museums aren't even involved.
Ugh, not too many museums in Arizona either. The Arizona Science Center isn't participating. The Phoenix Zoo might be worth checking out. Thanks though.
Actually, the Challenger Space Center is looking pretty good.

Metropolitan Museum of Art is always almost free. I f you look carefully you'll see the small words "suggested donation" below the prices. You can just give a dime any day and get in.
Saved $10 for 2 admissions to a local farming museum (well didn't really save anything since we would have never paid $5ea to go to that particular museum). We live near DC, but most of the DC museums on the list are already free, and the popular non-free ones, like the spy museum, were not on the list.
