Choice Hotel Customer Service Sucks. I wouldn't stay at any of their hotels again. We do have Choice Priv. Membership.

Last month while returning home to Washington from California we got a room at a Choice Hotel, Roadway Inn, in Redding, CA. This was during the height of the fires and we just selected the hotel from the pictures in the motel. It also said they took pets and had wireless internet.

We checked in and turned on the AC to cool the room. It just hummed along but never cooled. We laid down on the bed to wait but just sweated. I went to the office and complained and was told they had been having problems with electric because of the fires, etc, etc, and there was nothing they could do. I walked around and talked to some of the other guests and never found any whose AC didn't cool their room. Went back to the office, same BS. Finally went back to the room and asked my wife if she wanted to find a place that had AC. We packed up and left after 3 hours of BS.

With all the firemen in town we had to go to 3 motels before we found a room but the AC was great, the motel was nicer with nice areas to walk the dogs instead of asphalt and the staff was friendly and laughed at the BS Roadway Inn fed us.

I contacted AMEX (my cc used pending claim) and Choice Hotels. Choice said their hotels are "independent" etc. Manager at the Roadway Inn emailed calling me a liar. BS, BS etc. I'm complaining to Better Business and anyone else I can. Maybe AG in California.

We're retired, both 60, on 80K+ a year. Travel several times a year. Never, ever had something like this happen and been so insulted.

You are right. We just went by the discription and pictures in a guide book.

I will be more careful. Reserving a room can be a trap. You shouldn't be charged for a misrepresented and unusable room. As everyone says "it's the principle". We're having a family reunion in November with several hundred people. I won't be recomemding or booking any Choice Group Hotels.
