it doesn't come with any prepaid minutes. what would happen if I don't activate them on at&t? tia there was on old thread here http://www.fatwallet.com/t/18/845804 don't know why got deleted.
I still have an old AT&T blue plan. I've been looking to get a new phone, but getting a discounted one from AT&T requires me to change to a new plan, and I want to keep my blue plan. Does anyone know if a blue SIM will work in these go phones?

Your sim will also work in the Motorolas c168i at WM, Target $13 to $15 for new ones. The go phone activation kit included will bring $7 or so on eBay.

Yes, it works. that's exactly why i'm buying it.
I just received my 2610 today and I can confirm that it does NOT work with the AT&T Blue, white-colored SIM cards. When you turn on the phone it'll say "Phone Restricted" and ask you to enter a restriction code.
Edit: I just called AT&T and spent 20 minutes on the phone with them-- there's no way they can unlock your phone if you have Cingular Blue.
Edit: After some online research, the only way you'll get the phone unlocked is through AT&T (it uses BB5 which doesn't have a code generator), and only if you've had it for 90 days or if you're going overseas.
Edit: I called the prepaid AT&T line (611 on the GoPhone instead of 611 on my regular phone) and a great CSR told me that since I'm going overseas, I could go to my nearest AT&T store (only some of them have the proper equipment, so check) and get them unlocked, easily. I specifically asked about the 90 days and she said it didn't matter if I'm going abroad.

OK...I have a mostly white SIM card with a blue AT&T logo on it. Is that the "blue card"?

Why the red on this post? Is there a problem with dealdigs?

Yes. The Blue card is the only AT&T SIM that looks anything like "mostly white with a blue logo".

I have a AT&T no contract plan since 2004. It was AT&T and then Cingular and back to AT&T again. Can this Nokia 2610 work? Thanks. ps. the SIM card is most white, with AT&T blue logo, but numbers (code?) are in orange color.

I just called AT&T about unlocking an older (Cingular) Motorola phone that I have that doesn't work with a blue SIM card. I was told that AT&T doesn't unlock phones (even after 90 days) unless you are either going out of country, and want that ability added to your bill, or you paid full retail for the phone, and have a receipt. I was also told that they do NOT unlock gophones because they are heavily discounted, and considered "throw away" phones.
After more discussion, she did put in an application to get my phone unlocked, but I don't have high hopes.
Update: I got an email from the AT&T (The Subsidy Unlock Code Team) with the unlock code for my ancient Motorola T193G (single band GSM). Good news twice: The code worked, AND the phone works with my AT&T "blue band" SIM card. The mountain moved!

The "New" AT&T has the same 99 Unlimited plan available again. They had to match Verizons Deal. You should be good to go upgrade at an AT&T Store. Good Luck.

I just bought a c168i at Bestbuy and tried it with my "old network" AT&T SIM. No luck. First thing it asked for was a newtwork password.
Edit to add that the c168i I bought was an AT&T GoPhone.

$9.99 now. i got one just to use the charger on my other Nokia (which woulda cost even $4-5 on ebay), and not bad to have an extra phone just in case!
