I've got an earlier model of D-Link's wireless media server (DSM-320RD) and sending audio and video (network & internet) is a great concept. I send all my DVD-ripped & downloaded movies, digital pics, and mp3s wirelessly to my TV. I also stream internet video (youtube, cnet, etc.) and audio (internet radio). All controlled via remote control. And this model allows for HD video. This model has a USB port which, according to the listing, allows you to play your media off of a USB flash drive (my model has a USB port, but it's only used during initial setup ). My model has its share of bugs, but I got it a great price like this one, which makes the bugs tolerable. And this is a newer model, so I can only hope it has less bugs than mine. I used to use a wireless audio/video sender to send from my PC to my TV, but using a media server is oh so much nicer!

Here's the link to the D-Link website for more info/specs on this item than CC provides. It looks like it has HDMI and composite video connections (doesn't look like it has RCA outputs).

Although all of these wireless media servers suggest using a wired Ethernet connection for best video streaming, I don't have a wired connection and have few problems using wireless G.

Doesn't look like it supports H264 (that means your matroska .mkv or x264 encoded avi are going to play), no thanks. Also it supports only 5.1, so my 7.1 will not be supported. At this point the best least buggy and most customizable choice I can think of is a small factor PC with a 7.1 audio card (like this for example http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000CFUP9Y/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8 - I love this Diamond card) and a nice Intel CPU.

still no *rm files support? I will still stick to my old xbox plus a burner.

seems to be OOS online and no where in store in Bay Area - I already have one ($104 from Dell 2/08) and wanted another for a different room (for ~$50 it's a no-brainer); generally works very well over a wired connection (did not dare to try wireless) - I use it for divx streaming and music. It can stream the vob files too, has a front-side usb connector which does work for non FAT32 ext hard-drives. My only problem was a power hardware failure so had to send it back to Dlink to fix - they make you pay for shipping for repair under the warranty (some other companies don't).
If you do get it please update the firmware to 1.08 - trust me will save you a lot of problems.

Nice find though.

OP - did you actually buy one at this price? anyone else?

one would be hard pressed to get HD even over N. Depending on encoding of course. I just tried a 1080p .mkv and it seemed to burst to 22mbps video at some points, so theoretically N should handle it but G is definitely not enough (54mbps is very theoretical, the reality is anywhere from 4 to 12-15mbps).

Out of stock around my locations. It's weird that CC's website says original price is only $79.96 when actual retail is closer to $200!!

AFAIK, no set top boxes support MKV and probably never will. Because it's architecture is extensible you can't make a chipset that can support it.
