Won't last long.

You get 10 points for signing up to Club Onkyo, so it would be another $10 off.

1 year warranty on refurbished receivers.

You guys already know how great this receiver is, but if not:

- HDMI v1.3a Repeater (4 inputs, 1080P compatible)
- HDMI Video Upconversion
- 1080i Upscaling powered by Faroudja DCDi Edge
- TrueHD, DTS-HD Decoding

Receiver specs on Onkyo's site.

Unfortunately, tax in CA.

OP is right. Although the 606 has been on sale for this price on a few occassions (and an additional 10% off for sales events, which Onkyo often has - making this deal warm) they have a tendency to sell out quickly.

I got a 605 refurb from them some time ago and couldn't be happier with it and from what I've heard, the free return process within the first 30 days is stress-free.

Decent deal if you need one now. But if you keep an eye out, you can get them new for $360 from other online retailers like Amazon or 6th ave electronics.

if you would rather not deal with a refurb, Circuit City has this new for $429.99 Link

and Amazon has it for $388.51 and free shipping Link

For those of you with this receiver, can you set it up to just pass-through the video signal to HDMI, and not upscale it first?

Not to crap on this deal, but to point out a fact of life...

Are you folks watching flee-Bay and the live.com discounts? If not, try a fatwallet search using the correct terms I intentionally don't use and see what you can get this puppy for after cas h back. I make it $282 plus shipping @ 25% off, the discount as i fooled around here.

What would people recommend getting if your in need of a new set of speakers too? Should I go with a new Onkyo HT-S6100 set or just get the 606 Receiver and purchase speakers separately?

Depends on your budget and how much of an audiophile you are. To stay around the price of the HT-S6100, I would recommend you pair the Onkyo 606 with Polk R50's for the fronts, a CSR center, and either one of the following for the surrounds: R15,R150,R300, or R30. For the sub, I'd recommend the PSW10, or a Velodyne VX-10.

Onkyo 606:...........370 (New: 380ish @ Amazon)
Polk R50: 2x...........50
Polk R300:2x..........50
Polk CSR:...............80
Velodyne VX-10:..100
Total Cost:.......~$750 +Tax+S&H

I haven't read any reviews on the sound quality of the S6100 set, but I'm fairly confident this setup will give you significantly better sound than it. In case you're wondering where I got the Polk and Velodyne prices from, they're the prices I've seen these speakers on sale at Fry's B&M and online.

Hope this helped

Awesome. Thanks horspowr! I think I'll go with the 606 then.

I should wait. Sometimes it has 10% off for refur stuff, and it's time to pull the trigger.

OOS! Thanks for playing. I'll bump this when it's back in stock.

I actually have this setup. I have the 606 along with R50s for the front, R300s as surrounds in the back, and a Sony center channel. My sub is a Velodyne. I got all the speakers on sale at Frys. The sound is great. I love the receiver.

I just ordered from sexave.com for $351 shipped (new) using coupon code Summer72908... Should be interesting as I'm basing my choice on (mostly) positive reviews and I'm replacing a 12 year old Denon AVR-1500.

I know absolutely nothing about home A/V, I've got just basic coax (no box) coming into my house now, and I'm also purchasing the Samsung LN46A650 LCD from Ameba-begonz. Any assistance appreciated....

6ave link

FWIW, ZDNet review

Guessing I'll have to plug the cable into the TV and then HDMI back to the receiver. I like the whole microphone set-up thing, I'll deal with my tinnitus later... (maybe w/ the same .357 that started it)

Edit for no tax in CA>
