I did a search and did not find anything under "refurb 1tb" and "refurbished wd 1tb" so hopefully it's not a repost. Geeks.com is carrying this drive for 139.95 and using WDTB code you get free shipping. Here is the drive: Click Me

90 day warranty? no thanks

New ones can be had for a little more.

I realize that everyone's experience is different, but let me just say that having had to send a bad MyBook drive in to WD and the refurbished replacement I received that was somehow even shoddier and with even less of a warranty, I won't be recommending any Western Digital drives to anyone. (Nothing against the OP.)

yeh i needed a drive (no time to shop) and got a fair deal from Amazon prime. installed. 2 hours later after a defrag and several virus/spyware scans. bad block ; jumpered drive down to 1.5gb/s; more bad blocks. sent back, threw in 7200.10 i had that was a year old (idea was to use a new drive more longevity). flawless @ 3.0gb/s

seagate FTW.

Agree.

$166 shipped New bare drive.

$186 New, retail boxed.

Prices may drop even lower, soon, as WD has(will) released a new 3 platter version of this drive.

i build everything with WD, only WD, and never had a lick of trouble out them...

Just to offset the above fanboi, every box I've assembled with a WD drive (I think three before I learned my lesson) has had it fail inside of a year, and each of the subsequent replacements died before the orignal 3 year warranty period was up. I won't use WD again as a result. They are crap.

you can buy a band new sealed seagate 7200.11 with 5-year warranty at fleetbay for about the same price after ms CashBack

For that matter, I've seen several claims(quite believable) of aquiring brand new drives in op for $110 or so after live search Cash Back.

Still not quite the same as anyone being able to purchase from a retailer.

so WD warrants your hd by sending you a refurb with a shortened warranty?

if I paid for a 3-5 year warranty when i bought the first hdd, I should be entitled to break as many hdd's and get as many replacements in that 3 year timeframe.
