LOL... To blame Maxtor is about as smart as blaming the president for the economy but then again, that's just what people like you tend to do.

Well.. I disagree.. again .. may be its just me.. but blaming Maxtor is NOT remotely similar to blaming the President for the BAD economy.

Your right, it's just you.

Maxtor was bought by Seagate. Maxtor is reusing relabeled Seagate drives.

Most of my failed hard drives over recent years have been Maxtors. I've had a couple of WD drives fail on me too and their RMA procedure sucks. I had one Seagate fail on me and they replaced that very quickly with a drive that is still running years later.

Here is interesting paper, although they fall short of naming and shaming:

thankfully Seagate bought Maxtor not the other way round...

I am not new to computers in anyway, I have worked with computers for more than 16 years, almost your age. I worked as a computer technician, which means I fixed computers and I have seen my share of hard drives and computer parts. I also build my own pcs and work as a computer programmer. I may have had a WD die here and there, but maxtor was the one that died all the time. Seagate drives are great. Yes any drive can die, but get a maxtor and you are almost guaranteed it will die out in 2-3 years if it makes it that long. I have a seagate in my pc right now and have another ordered. I have western digital drives from years ago from my multiple pcs that still run without any issue. My maxtor collection of drives is in the trash. But for blaming the President for the economy, yes I sure do, but this isn't a political forum. If maxtor works for you, great, my opinion of them stands. You can agree or disagree.

FYI, seagate accquired maxtor in 2006. I haven't bought any maxtor drives for years, it is possible since the acquisition by seagate, the new maxtor drives are better, but they would be seagate's low end drives.

LOL. Folks new to the computers crack me up. In my collection of dead hard drives, I have many WD, Maxtor, Seagate, Quantum, Conner Peripherals, Micropolis, and a few more I don't even remember the brands... The bottom line is that these hard mechanical devices spinning at high speed through fluctuating heat and and cold cycles. THEY WILL ALL DIE, some sooner than others and it's purely statstics that you're the unlucky one. Maybe yours fell off the truck and was sold for a "hot" deal or you were mean to the UPS man and he regularly drops your packages on purpose. To blame Maxtor is about as smart as blaming the president for the economy but then again, that's just what people like you tend to do.

And I have been working on computers LONGER than YOU have been alive... and I have 2 computers that are older than 10 years... both of THEM have Maxtor drives in them (one has 3 drives)... and they are purring along nicely!!! I have all sorts of HDD in my MANY computers at home... and have had NO problems with any of them... INCLUDING the 20 year old Windows 2.0 machine with a 100 MB drive that I turn on from time to time, just for laughs....

"Valued Staples Customer,

Re: Item #: 663890, the Maxtor 160GB Int Sata HD kit

Unfortunately, the inventory on the "special buy" item you ordered has been depleted due to high
demand. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. You were not billed for this item."

WTF I ordered when they were showing inventory. Must not have a very good inventory system. On well, even though it was a good deal, it wasn't a great deal. I picked up a PATA 160 Maxtor 4 or so years ago for $35 after a rebate and coupon. At the time that was a great deal.

How is this a hot deal?

The deal is dead now, but if you didn't think it was a hot deal you didn't have to buy one, but I thought, as did many others, that a SATA 160GB hard drive for $30 was a pretty good deal. Why bother posting your comment?

I also got this same email today. I passed up going to my local store & getting one since I was getting free shipping. CS at Staples always told me inventory was real time.
