Also available as part of a package deal that looks a bit lame to me:

HP Pavilion dv5-1002nr Laptop with Cooling Stand, Wireless Mouse & Laptop Sleeve

GA Tax free holiday now. Cool!

Nice, thank you....

Apparently awesome graphics card & nice overall packaging with HDMI & newer AMD dual core chipset.
However aweful battery life again by HP.

Good review on this new family line from HP

Thanks for the link. The laptop sure looks nice especially at this price point. However, I'd like to point out that not all HP/Compaq products have poor battery life. My DV6500 (with the T2330) will go 3-3.5 hours on my six cell and naturally double that with my twelve cell battery. Perfectly reasonable IMO.

No firewire port? Why, oh why did HP do this?!

You're right about that. Not having a firewire port is a bonehead move on HP's part. I think I'd be all over this laptop if it had the firewire port.

Is the RM-70 and older chipset than say the TL-60? Trying to debate whether the best buy no rebates price is worth the $100 more over the Office Depot deal (after rebates and 5% back on business card and tax).

http://products.amd.com/en-us/NotebookCPUSideBySide.aspx?id=6&id=438

Here's a comparison. Can someone decipher the differences for me? So the RM-70 has a faster system bus, lower wattage, and slightly less cache. Does the smaller process technology for the RM-70 mean that it is a thinner CPU?

Just snagged one at BB. (as for the Office Depot deal) I dont trust manuf mail in rebates. especially when they want you to send in the orignial upc from the box. so what happens when they loose your upc....then your out your rebate. so you might as well just pay the extra. Plus the Office Depot deal is the last gen of chips. if you ever want to upgrade this laptop just swap out the RM-70 for the ZM-84 and slip swap out your ram and your well on you way to extending the longevity of this laptop.

Im going to pick this one up and change out some of the parts ex. ram to ocz 4gig pc-6400 kit from new egg. a 320gig 7200 rpm drive.. wat my question is where can u purchase the the cpu's from? i have googled up and down and i can not find them for the life of me.
Also my other question is will this laptop have any problem play games like world of wackcraft. I dont play it any more. But diablo 3 is coming and the req's are very close to wow req.
thank you in advance.

Can anyone confirm that it is still $599 in-store? I'm seriously considering using this as a desktop replacement.. I used to be into upgrading my computer and what not but I think a laptop hooked up to an external monitor and keyboard would be better space-wise, and I can take it along with me as well.

Thanks, bought two and am pretty happy with this model.
It runs 3d games with no problem whatsoever.
And the price was right too.

Got this the second time it was on sale at Best Buy 8/10. Anyway, anyone have problems with the laptop? My problem is that I'll start surfing the web and maybe after 20-30min or so my internet connection dies (ie the page just stops loading and literally nothing happens). If I'm using firefox 3.0, I'll close it, but it won't let me reopen it, saying process already running. What's worse is I can't end task it in task mgr. If I'm using IE7, it just stops loading, but I can close and reopen, although nothing loads up. One thing I did notice is that as soon as the laptop boots up and is ready to go, if I go to system performance, the free physical memory starts counting down b/c it all goes to cache. At some point, it'll reach zero. I did load zone alarm (free version), and purchased Eset NOD32 AV. The laptop runs on wireless. I'll ping the router and get a 5ms response. Also, the PC is hardwired to the router and continues to work flawlessly. I emailed HP support, but they're useless. Please help! Thanks in advance!

It is in clearance in most BestBuy stores ranging from 535.99 to 599.99 with dwindling supply. The model is dv5-1003nr. If anybody finds a better price, please post.
