EDIT 8/2: Big price hike, but (at least) the sky's still falling!

Lament has cleared me for posting this extension to his "remanufactored" thread, bless his heart...

I just ordered from sexave.com for $351 shipped (new) using coupon code Summer72908... Should be interesting as I'm basing my choice on (mostly) positive reviews and I'm replacing a 12 year old Denon AVR-1500.

I know absolutely nothing about home A/V, I've got just basic coax (no box) coming into my house now, and I'm also purchasing the Samsung LN46A650 LCD from Ameba-begonz. Any assistance appreciated....

FWIW, ZDNet review

Guessing I'll have to plug the cable into the TV and then HDMI back to the receiver. I like the whole microphone set-up thing though, I'll deal with my tinnitus later... (maybe w/ the same .357 that started it)

NO TAX IN CA> Hopefully the t-shirts are gone and the daily neg-rating can resume.

Only residents of NJ and NY will be charged sales tax. "WE WILL NEVER FORGET!!

Make sure you get HDMI 1.3a cables from Monoprice. You'll need them for your lossless audio (and other reasons - see below) (provided you have a Blu-ray or HD DVD player). Even if you don't - I'd get 1.3a cables for futureproofing anyway.

HDMI 1.3:

Higher speed: HDMI 1.3 increases its single-link bandwidth to 340 MHz (10.2 Gbps) to support the demands of future HD display devices, such as higher resolutions, Deep Color and high frame rates. In addition, built into the HDMI 1.3 specification is the technical foundation that will let future versions of HDMI reach significantly higher speeds.

Deep Color: HDMI 1.3 supports 10-bit, 12-bit and 16-bit (RGB or YCbCr) color depths, up from the 8-bit depths in previous versions of the HDMI specification, for stunning rendering of over one billion colors in unprecedented detail.

Broader color space: HDMI 1.3 adds support for “x.v.Color™” (which is the consumer name describing the IEC 61966-2-4 xvYCC color standard), which removes current color space limitations and enables the display of any color viewable by the human eye.

New mini connector: With small portable devices such as HD camcorders and still cameras demanding seamless connectivity to HDTVs, HDMI 1.3 offers a new, smaller form factor connector option.

Lip Sync: Because consumer electronics devices are using increasingly complex digital signal processing to enhance the clarity and detail of the content, synchronization of video and audio in user devices has become a greater challenge and could potentially require complex end-user adjustments. HDMI 1.3 incorporates automatic audio synching capabilities that allows devices to perform this synchronization automatically with total accuracy.

New HD lossless audio formats: In addition to HDMI’s current ability to support high-bandwidth uncompressed digital audio and all currently-available compressed formats (such as Dolby® Digital and DTS®), HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™.

You also will want to check if you cable provider even has hd support through just the coax cable. Some providers will give you 2 or 3 hd channels that most people don't know about. Since your getting quite the nice tv and a fantastic receiver ( i have the SR505), might as well have the HD stations to watch. No point in having the sweet equipment to watch regular definition.

Yes, that is pretty much the only way to hook it up if you don't have a cable box. You'll probably only get 5.1 sound from the TV to the stereo, and then only will get that if the channel you pull in through your coax uses it (most local HD channels do broadcast in 5.1 sound, but it depends on your cable company if they pass those local HD channels through or not). Regarding local HD through cable, the number it gets put on, unless you do a CableCard, will likely be something weird, not what shows up in your newspaper, etc.

If you hook up a DVD or Blu-ray player, or Xbox 360 or PS3, down the road (or anything that has HDMI output), you'll want to run those to the stereo first, then output HDMI from the stereo to the TV. It can all get a little complicated, even though HDMI is only one wire... But you want to make sure you have the best sound possible.

Wow, Amazon bumped up their price 5% as well, guess they realized there's oil in dem amps....

I called SexAve and asked them to credit themselves for the price difference. Great customer service, they were more than happy to oblige me!!!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions regarding my "no box" situation. When I purchased my home a decade ago, I "inherited" that coax connection. So, the deal is, I don't complain about the signal, and they don't offer to accessorize their service!
