I have an SD450 and here is what I was offered:
sx110is - $129
sd890is- $149
sx10 - $199

I REALLY wanted a DSLR but wasn't offered one. Some of the reviews for the SX10 seem to suggest it works as well as a SLR. I am a beginner and wanted something to start learning photography with. Will this suffice or should I just get a SLR.

You should realize you won't get anyhwere near the same image quality especially at higher ISOs, but for $199 the SX10 is a pretty attractive deal. Go to Pbase.com and search through some sample images of the SX10 and a Rebel and decide for yourself if you are okay with the difference.

had to negotiate, SX10 and SX20 are the same price. So they finally relented.

Want to tell us how you negotiated? I called today and the CSR just keep saying the SX20 is not in the program.

These lists are for the rebate Canon is offering towards new cameras, a different program than this one that offers refurbs at a big discount when you trade in a broken camera.

Why is everyone so high on the SX20is ? there was a deal on an SX20is posted this week, and concensus seemed to be that the SX10 was a better camera, and the sensors were the same size.

Your right tjhtjh sorry why would they put Loyalty Program next to rebate program. And how is 10mp and no HD video better on SX10.

more MP on the same sized sensor (the same senor ?) in general will increase the noise in your shots. I cannot afford an SLR, but I care about the picture quality more than I care about the ability to take HD video.

I can understand that for many people getting a camera that takes HD video is a priority. Thanks for the response.

I for one DO NOT think the SX10IS is better than the SX20IS.

the SX10IS lacks

- HDMI
- 720p Video
- 2 extra megapixles 10 vs 12
- Smart AUTO

and a few other features. Plus Canon did away with the SX10IS 28mm Wide lens because it caused barrel distortion.

I have also seen alot of posts where people are getting the SD890IS (which is not even listed on Canon's website) I have or had an old S3IS and was offered an SD980IS which launched this year.

Or just wait. I waited a whole year.

I recalled in DCview some ppl said sx10 has better still quality than sx20 does.
Since I have my own HD cam, the HD capability is not the thing I really care about.
The thing it does bother me is that from some photo samples, I feel the photo quality of sx10
is ever inferior to SD890 >"<

I just called twice and they would not budge. What time did you call them IceColdKila. I don't know what i am going to do ether the XS for $359 or go to WalMart and buy one off the shelf for 379$ and i can get a employee discount through inlaws.

Sent Email I turn in a G9 and get offered a SX10 with lower mega pixels and a XS $359 before $10 shipping witch i don't rely need that much camera. This is not right i can go to the store down the street and get a SX20 for $379 or XS for $499 brand new and this is before the holiday sales start. All i ask is to make the Canon Loyalty program worth my loyalty.
