My story: My S400 did not have the CCD issue but it was missing pixels on the lcd plus the lens would only extend half way when powered on. Opened ticket with Canon, sent in the camera and waited a week. Received email stating they were going to fix it for free. Two days later received phone call from Canon rep stating the inside of the camera showed PROOF the camera had been submersed in water. I was just hoping they would offer me an upgrade to begin with but when they said they would fix it I was fine with that. It absolutely torqued me when she said the camera wasn't working because I dunked the camera. That was a completely fabricated story so I couldn't help but argue the point. Finally, after a supervisor, I was offered the loyalty program. The SD850is was $150, G9 was $359, and the EOS XT was $299 plus tax and shipping. It seems they just keep raising the prices so I passed. I told them to keep my underwater S400. Olympus here I come.

Ridiculous of Canon. Heck, the G10 was going for $399 from Dell including free shipping a few days ago. They're out of their friggin mind, offering a refurbed obsolete camera for so much.
My thoughts... it's a great way for them to get another of THEIR cameras in your hand to build customer loyalty. They take your old camera and possibly donate them to some charity and write them off. A win for everyone.
Called Canon and sent in my old 3.2MP SD110. It was beat up physically and had the CCD problem. Within 2 weeks I was told my "repair" was accepted and being shipped back. Received a refurbed 7.1MP SD1000. It was quite a nice surprise and great little camera. So basically I got a free upgrade for $0 on a camera that was sitting in our "old electronics" box.
Thanks, OP! Thanks Canon Loyalty Program!
Same deal with me. Mine even had a tad of water damage and the case was corroding! They sent back a refurbed SD900 and I was happy. But I feel the SD900 isn't even that great... in fact, I dropped the camera at one point and since then the camera has been taking unpredictably blurry pics. Since it's outside their warranty, it'll cost me $99 to get fixed. Or I could trade up and get another camera. But I feel like I might as well just sell it as is at this point and cut my losses.
I have to give it to Canon, they are class acts. My camera (SD800 IS) was technically 3 days out of warranty since they go by purchase date, but I mentioned to them it was still less then one year that I've physically had the camera since I bought it online and gave them a tracking number verifying the same. But that was just the first hurdle. The camera wouldn't turn on because I dropped the thing, and it was obvious - the battery/memory card door was missing. A few days after they received my camera, they emailed me to tell me they were repairing it free of charge. I know some people think Canon owes them the world, but really, I'd like to know of any other camera manufacturer that repairs free of charge out of warranty cameras that were damaged doing one of things that aren't supposed to be covered in the first place. Canon could have enforced the letter of the warranty contract and I would have been out of luck with no one to blame but myself, but instead they were considerate of this now very loyal customer. And Nyrm22, thanks for your story, I also have a SD110 that just sits in a drawer and has the silver chipping off all over and a broken CCD (all regular wear & tear), maybe I'll give it a shot and mail it in and see if they are as generous with me a second go around.

A80 gives me the problem (looks like CCD) not always.. sometimes the image is blurry but other times they are fine.
Do you guys think its time to replace it... or should i tell that my camera is having an issue???
any advice...
TIA
No one???I have an A80 with similar problems. Canon offered me the upgrade but I wanted a DSLR. The A80 is catching dust right not while I look for a DSLR.

sent my A80 and should be getting it back sometime this week. I had the same sorta issue. The letter I received from their assestment was that it was the CCD issue and they would repair free of charge. I am hoping though that I get a newer model back without the upgrade fee.
Has anyone called with a SD550 that has a broken flash? I have 2 that have the same problem. The flash fails to fire (and thus forces the camera to not take a picture).

Really? I sent in an S230 during the last week of December with sample photos of the CCD issue. I got back a letter stating parts were not available to repair the camera, therefore it is being replaced.
They replaced my S230 a refurbed SD770IS. Better than the SD1100IS. Totally scored!
I sent in an S400 with an intermittent CCD problem hoping to get a SD1000 replacement. I just got my S400 back cleaned and supposedly fixed. I'm not complaining tho. The camera works flawlessly now and I didn't have to go buy new accessories for another camera. Didn't cost me a thing.
My S30 got the ones mentioned above still. Do you think the SD890IS is worth 150 + 10 + tax? I was looking at the SD1100IS which is 149 today on Amazon (blue).

When I called yesterday they described the process as 1) shipping me the new camera I choose (SD890 for $150) and 2) send my S30 in the return labeled box. Sounds like you peeps had to send in your old camera first.

As stated several times, the loyalty program is not the same as the CCD recall. For CCD recall, you send it in and they fix it. As for loyalty, you send in your old camera after buying a refurb over the phone.

I have the same problem with SD550...seems like a common problem and if you are out of warranty, its pretty much a throw-away (thats what I was told upon calling)
Received my A80 back yesterday. They repaired it, did not replace it. Bummer, I was really hoping hoping for a free replacement. Either way my wife said she wanted to go back to this camera versus our Lumix we recently bought. The Canon taked better quality images.
I just called and got the Deal on my old SD200, but I was hoping just to get the camera fixed (was going to give it to my daughter) Is there a distinction they are making from E18 error and a BUSTED internal LCD screen? Anyone ever have their SD200 fixed?
Update on the SD890IS. Lovely little camera, but couldn't justify keeping it over the wide-angle 10x zoom Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5. Sold on Craigs' List with an 8-gig SD card for $175. Ended up paying about $15 for the privilege of playing around with it for a little while (when you factor in the cost of a replacement SD card, shipping fee to Canon and tax). I can live with that.
I just sent in a Powershot SD800 IS for repair, and they offered to repair for $137, give me a refurbed 870IS for $140, a Powershot S5 IS for $175, or a Powershot G9 for $275. Since I wasn't looking to spend anything additional from what my repair quote was, I chose to take the 870 IS. I was also charged about $20 for tax and shipping, but overall ended up only slightly more than my repair estimate, for a better camera.
Has anyone had an SD200 Powershot repaired free of charge or are they only offering the standard refurbished deal for those? I really just want mine fixed....
TYTBUDGET said: If only they'd let me trade in their printers lol. There's NO way I would trade in my Canon iP3000 (1) or iP4000 (3). They are keepers. They were probably the best / cheapest to run (w/ generic ink) inkjet printers you could get.
Wouldn't take much for me to give up the iP6220D and iP3500.

Great program!
IS the 870IS better than the SD800? I heard they no longer offered the wide angle lens of the 800 in any of the later 800 models. I was hoping I would be able to replace my beloved SD800 if anything ever happened to it but was afraid the wide-angle lens would not be replicated in newer models.

I sent in my old Canon A95 with the CCD issue to Canon. They didnt send me a new one but they did repair the A95 very well. They even sent it back to me using 2 day FedEx shipping. Very impressed by the whole turn around time. Way to go Canon
hey for you guys who received the SD1000, do you find that sometimes when you press the shutter button, the camera doesn't take a picture? I'm finding the camera to be somewhat picky as to when it wants to take the picture.
The Link shows this is for the body only, but it is currently out of stock - Canon Digital Rebel XT SLR Camera Body Kit - Black Finish - Refurbished By Canon U.S.A.
Unless you really want to have a Canon SLR or already have Canon Lenses, the Nikon refurbed D40x (body only) for $275 would be a better deal. LINK The Canon XT is 4 year old technology (early 2005). With all the price drops of SLR Cameras lately, I would not even consider one unless it was in the $175 - $200 range. Even then, I would probably hold out for at least an XTi or XSi if I was going to get a Canon.

Are you sure you have the mode switch in the correct position? If not, just call Canon back....they're very good about the 6 month warranty on the refurbs. My first SD1000 had to be replaced because of a problem with the LCD screen, and I received excellent service.
