8/3 - Seems that there is a way to get the 3-months trial without making the textbook purchase - borrowed from *ahem* another site:

You need:

a non registered e-mail address
a non registered credit card
$100 of textbooks in your cart - By no means does this mean that the books are free, the deal is for 3 Free Months of Amazon Prime. Simply remove the books after you activate the Prime in the cart and that's it.

There will be a point after you input the credit card info where you "Continue" and in the cart it will display:

You can create a new account with different name, email, and a virtual credit number. after you got the Primary shipping, you can invite you old account.

Worked like a charm. I had to order a text book anyways. Never had any prime trial memberships earlier.
So, it worked without having to create a new account/cc etc. Thanks op. green.

Did it this morning and it worked after a few tries. I had to enter a new email address, new physical address and a new CC # to get it to work. Otherwise, it would say I wasn't eligible.

I then invited my primary account and ordered through it. Green for you OP.
