I bought one of these to try out. It requires you plug your car's antenna into it, and then your existing car radio's antenna into it. It powers off of the DC jack and requires you to plug it in to the aux jack of your radio (if it has one).
The unit itself actually works quite well (even has RDS for regular stations). But as it's been noted, it's got boxes, cables, and mounts that make it more of an eye soar than anything else.
I just tested it by plugging the antenna into itself and then used a DC to AC converter to power it. It worked fine, but I had cables and boxes all over my desk. It wasn't even worth it to use in an existing tabletop radio because of the mess. I returned it (even at the $37 clearance price).
If it were $51 or a little more, it would be worth it.
