If they will accept your application, DO IT!!
I would take the scissors to any unused credit cards thought - I had one in my desk drawer, my house was broken into, it was stolen and the theives ran up about $5,000 on it. SWEET

I had tried to open a citbank mastercard, while I had another AT&T mastercard issued by them. 3-4 days after my new application, they called up and informed me that I had another card with them, and if I would like to consolidate both the cards (with the balance carried to the new card and the credit limit too) into the new card .. I did and they cancelled the old card and carried forward everything on the old card to the new one. Call discover to find out .. they might have something similar.
Is this drive itself SATA or PATA? I need a new internal drive so I just might bite on this but I was really looking for a PATA drive to replace my dead one.

One thing to keep in mind is it might help some fico scores to have older credit cards, at least that's what I read somewhere.

I still have not closed my first credit card that I had in 2001 .. even though I have never used it after 2004 .. its just sitting at home idle. Not to boast, but my score is at 792 (transunion) .. never a late payment, always paid in full everytime for all my cards.
sweet! have actually been looking for a good deal on an external HD *without* a separate power cable, but, hey, for a free hard drive i can live with a slightly annoying power cable. thanks FW!
I wasn't able to apply for the second card, beacuse I already received Discovery card just two months ago:
"Thank you for your interest in Discover Card. However, our records indicate that you have already submitted an application within the last 90 days. For that reason, this application will not be processed. Thank you again.?"

Here is a link to the product at Western Digital - though we've been unable to find a mention of whether it is SATA or PATA. The model number is WDH1U5000N.
Is there an annual fee for this discover card? Or any other type of fee? Also, what's the earliest you can cancel the card and still get the drive?
Edit: nvm just saw "No Annual Fee" but is there any catch to this offer? If I don't plan to ever actually charge anything to the card (other than to activate it)...

There is no annual fee. Edit: I see you found that out. I just got accepted so I will make one purchase, wait for the EHD and then do away with the card.

Edit: nvm just saw "No Annual Fee" but is there any catch to this offer? If I don't plan to ever actually charge anything to the card (other than to activate it)... as per their T&C, you WILL have to make a charge for them to consider the card to be "activated". From their website:
Card activation is defined as making a purchase, balance transfer or cash advance with this credit card.
