First post, so go easy...

Seems that PG&E is subsidizing Feit Electric 4 packs of 100W replacement CFL's. I just bought 5 packs at the Walgreens on Telegraph in North Oakland, but you can find participating stores in your area here: http://www.pge-cfl.com/

Since this is a PG&E thing, it'll obviously only work in places serviced by PG&E so if you live in Ohio, call your cousin who lives in the bay area.

I bought some last year in a state where the power companies do not pay part of the cost of CFL. I bought some FEIT CFL for 1/2 price. At 1/2 price I still feel like I wasted money because several died after little use. The last one died within 1/2 a second of turning it on the first time. I have some other brands that have lasted for years inside and outside of my house.

At the posted price, they may be worth the gamble but I paid about that much for a single 23W FEIT CFL and will never do so again.

I've had feit bulbs, and one burnt out, and feit sent out a replacement without any questions.

How about putting location in title?

Stay away, stay VERY far away from anything labeled "Feit Electric" or "Lights of America". Both of these suffer extremely high failure rates compared to other brands. You would be lucky if they last even 12 months. I know because I bought a dozen of them during sales, and 8 of the 12 burned out in the first year. Never again.

I found this deal at Menards around 2 years ago when they were running deals on Feit CFL bulbs (decorative & traditional). One (1) of the decorative bulbs was DOA, I called Feit and they shipped a new one that arrived in about week.

The decorative bulbs are in our kitchen (ceiling fan) and dinning room and used on a daily basis. The bulbs have performed flawlessly. The traditional bulbs are used in our living room table lamps on a nightly basis, no failure issues. The heat output is significantly less with these bulbs...

I understand that 2 years ago and current day examples are completely different, one could only hope that quality will continue to improve with time!

Good on your fatwallet pocket, but bad for the environment.

my 2 cents

I've used quite a few FEIT bulbs in the past. Most lasted a few years. One decided to burn out in smoke though after about two years of use. It literally started to fill the room with smoke. Apparently, this has happened to many CFLs of several different brands as I did some research on it after it happened. An important thing to remember when installing CFLs is making sure to always handle them and install them by the base. If you turn them into the socket holding the glass, you will likely due some internal damage and cause them to burn out prematurely.

Most of the CFLs in my house are either GEs (They sell 6-packs at the local Wal-Mart for $10) or cheapo Wal-Mart brand ones. I put the Wal-Mart ones in about six months ago and so far no problems. I will see how well they perform over time and hopefully will not have any smoke-outs. When i did the research on the bulb that smoked out a few years ago, I found that the GE manufacturing standards and safety precautions were supposedly better documented and up to code as opposed to some of the other brands. Don't know if its still true or not. I do notice that the GEs are not quite as bright as some of the other ones out there and they are rated as using a couple watts more power than other brands for the same brightness level.

Agreed the "infant mortality" of Feit Electric blubs are very high in my experience.
