Nice price. Only problem is we cannot attach grass catcher bag. Anybody know work around or how to collect the grass after the mowing is done. TIA

Yes there is a way to collect the grass...an innovative concept called "raking and bagging." Personally, I'd rather stick needles in my eyes...

I thought you can buy something like mesh grass catcher. I don't know as I've never used them before. I cut grass very often (about twice a week) as exercise as well as like keeping my lawn. So the clippings are very small.

OMG, a people powered mower...
What will they think of next?

I had one of these in 1990 when I lived in Oregon and originally had a yard about the size of an SUV. There is a type of bag that can attach behind it -- kind of looks like a big hanging scoop. I still would not recommend it. You have no idea how much work this kind of mower requires. I had to get a running start to get it to do a decent job of cutting. Unless you are trying to get to a zero carbon footprint, skip this entirely. You will hate it.

Forget this mower If you have thick bladed tall fescue type grass......ylou gaotta get a running start......get a cheap power mower. If you have a fine bladed bermuda grass (like tifgreen) and the lawn is very small this will work. I have one of these I got at a yard sale almost 20 years ago. You can adjust the height down to 1/4"....think putting green

Hey nay sayers : this isn't your grandpa's 80 lb reel mower from 1935 - been there, done that with at least ten old reel mowers in various states of repair. These new modern reel mowers weigh ~ 30lb and push much easier than a gas mower weighing 60 + lbs. There is no comparison with the 30 year old p.o.s. that you or I bought at a yard sale. My yard takes 75 min with a self-mulching power mower and has a 120 foot wide, 8 foot high hill that was always a major p.i.t.a. to deal with. It now takes me 60 min and the hill is no longer dreaded. No gas to buy, no half-burned fumes to choke on, no rotary blade to sharpen 3-4 times a year, no spark plugs or oil to change, and no hearing loss from the mini turbo-prop or maxed out Ipod, however you roll ...

I can't stress enough how easy these things are to push compared to older versions and gas mowers. The only problem I've encountered is jamming from small twigs - but it's easy to clear the twigs when this happens by inducing a little back-spin with your shoe. While there might be some validity to thick grass concerns, I've been able to push through long tough patches that would stall out a new 5.5 HP gas mower with little additional effort. It will take 2 or 3 "mows" for the plants to adapt to the new cutting mechanism, so the lawn might look a little uneven at first. As for bagging your clippings, screw it, that's what worms and microbes are for ...

YMMV. I just borrowed a friend's Reel mower because I was seriously thinking about purchasing one, and I'm *so* glad I tried it out first since it was a really bad experience. I didn't even get through the whole lawn--had to stop half-way through due to how utterly difficult it was to push the mower through the admittedly tall grass. Imagine taking a running start and running into a brick wall. That's not to say your experience won't be better--it sounds like it's dependent on a few key variables including sharpness of the blade, height/thickness of grass, and size of yard. You may say you plan to mow the lawn 2 times a week to make sure it doesn't get too tall to cut, but do you *really* want to have to deal with the headache involved if you ever miss a week? I know I don't.

Why mow at all?!?! Haven't you snag a Robomower yet? It's priceless to me. Not only don't I mow, but I get a kick out of seeing other people literally stop to watch my lawn being mowed. It's a waste of their time - not mine.

I'm 60 years old and have no intention of using a reel mower ever again, no matter how small my yard may be. When I was a kid that is all we had so I had no choice but I do now. I mow my yard with a lawn tractor but it is a fairly large lawn area. I also mow the yard for a neighbor lady who is disabled and I use her riding mower for the back yard. However, she has three small lawn areas in the front and I decided to buy a Neutron battery operated mower for these spots. Best thing I ever did!

Although battery operated mowers are three times more expensive than a reel mower, they are just the trick for something around a quarter acre or so. I would recommend them over a reel mower any day.

I have one of the Scott's Classic 20 inch reel mowers. I can't imagine it being difficult mowing through tall grass but I imagine if I had some form of cancer and had lost 50% of my muscle mass it might be difficult. My 11 and 13 year old sons have no difficulty operating the mower. You do get a little more exercise than you do when using a riding mower or even a self propelled mower so those of you who are getting too much exercise need to be careful.

There is a web site called cleanairgardening.com that talks a lot about reel mowers. They state that the heavier mowers like Scott's are good for the southern portion of the US where fescue and bermuda are prevalent and that the lighter mowers such as Brill and Sunlawn are better for the Northern part of the US.

The reel mower does a descent job of cutting short grass. It doesn't do very well on tall grass or weeds. If you have a yard that is full of rocks and sticks a reel mower would be difficult because it will get stuck every time it hits even a small stick. It does horrible on dandelions. It is very quiet and obviously there are no fumes. It actually does a better job of cutting short grass than a grass mower does because it actually cuts the blades of grass and does not rip them as a power mower does. Best of all, it requires no oil or gas and has no spark plugs.

reel mower owner here too. it can get difficult to mow if you let your grass get REALLY tall, but otherwise, it's a snap. easier to push than my non-self propelled gas mower (by a long shot), and always starts. the cut of the grass isn't as even as a rotary mower, but that doesn't bother me. the precision flat top of that type of lawn looks too fake to me.

but overall, this particular mower is a breeze to push through normal grass.

you also save on time and garbage bags by not collecting the grass. leaving clippings on the lawn keeps the nutrients in the grass instead of throwing them in a landfill
