I just got off the phone with AT&T and they are having a promotion on their U-verse High Speed Internet right now. You can upgrade to the faster 6 mbps from the basic 1.5 mbps free for 6 months. ($60 Value) If you are not satisfied with the upgrade or don't want to pay after the 6 months, you can opt out any time online. Possibly Regional, definitely works in Texas.

Thanks for the Green!

6MBs? That's it?

Pathetic for a FIBER connection. FIOS puts this to shame.

Color me red but, I'd get fiber in a heart beat if available but even cable is at 15MB/s currently. I had ATT guys come out and they couldn't figure out how to get the wire into the house without wrapping it all around the house. I told them to pack it and leave. They had two van full of techs who had worked on the field for decades and didn't know how / care to do it right. Not that cable is any better, but atleast they'll work with you. ATT still is being stubborn and not learning it's lesson from fios by going FTH.

Go ahead color me. Make my day

they offered me this a couple of months ago. Defy better than 1.5 MB down, but I won't go back to Time Warner, their service is lousy and customer service is a joke! Plus, they want $55/month for their i-net only package, but ATT is just $30/month.

I'd rather have a couple guys concerned about how to run the wire into my home than have some cable douchebag poking holes through my walls.

Hate to burst your bubble, but the average website throughput is about 300kbps, so you'll most likely never achieve 15mbps any time soon. Plus, with cable, you are sharing that 15mbps with everyone in your neighborhood. With DSL, you get that 6mbps all to yourself. You should be looking at the upload speeds instead for less latency. AT&T only blocks outbound port 25, but will unblock it upon request. Most cable companies are crazy about blocking ports, and they don't care if you don't like it. I'm not a big fan of AT&T either, but once you get it installed and working, there are some advantages over cable.

Is this also available if you currently have the 6mbps plan and want to go to the next one up and fastest at 10mbps?? I hope so since they are allowing those who pay less for the 1.5 to skip the 3 and go straight to 6.. how about us who are already paying for 6mbps and want to go to 10 (usually an extra $15.. not worth it but if its 6 months free, sure!!)

6mbs has got to be a mistake. I'm currently getting 6mbs with my At&t DSL elite package ( not the fiber/uverse). The AT&T rep told me uverse was 12mb and wasn't in my area yet. 6 ain't nuthing special.

heck here you need like 80% of yoru uverse bandwidth (24 mbit/10mbit for modem) to watch one high def channel.

oops you want to watch two high def shows? sorry not enough bandwidth.

lame.

You can hit 6Mbps+ easily if you're doing p2p or other heavy download.
With cable, you are not sharing 15Mbps with your neighborhood, the 15Mbps or whatever your plan allowed is your cap. The cable bandwidth can be up to 50Mbps which is your neighborhood are sharing.

With DSL, you get your dedicated bandwidth, however, the actual bandwidth achievable on DSL depending on your distance from Central Office or Access Multiplexer and subjected to your line condition. My friend has a 1.5Mbps DSL plan but the most he can get and tested by the technician is only 800k.

I have U-Verse. I switched over from my other provider for one reason: Price.
For what I was paying for JUST INTERNET with my old provider, I now get TV + Internet (Elite 6.0 package) for almost the same price.

I wonder if I can downgrade to express 1.5 package, take the cheaper price, then get the promo for 6 months?

I switched from Comcast (7mbit) to uVerse (3mbit) in Chicago. Uverse was much faster browsing the web. The ping times were much, much lower, not to mention the upstream was fantastic, 1mbit.
