Yeah Lowes ... hurry up and get rid of the mercury filled bulbs and make room for the (future release of) L.E.D.s on the shelves.

Oh please they have been making florecent tubes the same way for over 60 yrs, and most of them were 7ft long, you would have to be a HUGE klutz to need to worry about the Mecury in a handheld tube. You most likely eat more Mercury from that Tuna sandwich you had at lunch, than this, unless you are breaking them in a bag and Huffing the contents. The Pollution reduction/cost savings from using Billions of these vs Standard Incadecents is Enromous, thet require 1/4 the energy of a regular bulb. If Everyone used them in their homes exclusively they would see a 5-10 dollar Monthly reduction in their electric use, and would put alot less strain on the nations Energy grid.

Intelligence of the posters in that link seems to be inversely proportional to the number of posts. The mercury that comes out of the stacks of the 50 dirtiest coal fired power plants is more than the mercury from all the CFL's in this country. Power plant pollution Before any one mouths off , I worked at the WA Parish Power Plant for 3 years as plant results engineer. It's no 16 on the Dirty 50 list for Mercury. You clean up more mercury by using the CFL to cut coal fired generation than you would contribute if the lamp broke. The one you really want to get rid of is the Tungsten filament lamp(Incandescent lamp). It is a super polluter.

I lose the scavenger hunt. Spent 30+ minutes at Lowes at Easton. Nothing. Lots of CFLs, a couple by Sylvania, no 3-packs and nothing even close to $1.82. I went all up and down the lightbulb aisle, looked through the lamp and fan area, checked all the end caps. Nada. Don't know where the OP found these, but there wasn't even a spot for them in the light bulb aisle and they weren't anyplace else I could find.

They are with the regular stock. These have been on clearance for the last 3-4 weeks and are the Sylvania bulbs in the old packaging. The new packages will all ring up at full price. So if you see two different looking packages for the same bulbs then your store has some of the clearance units, Take them to the self check out and check the prices.

there isnt really a danger in mercury unless you eat it. But then, it is shaped like a ice cream cone swirl.

You shoudln't worry about the mercury in these bulbs as long as you dispose of them properly. Home Depot offers a free recycling program in all there stores for unbroken compact fluorescent light bulbs. Hopefully Lowe's will step up and do the same thing here soon. So you can and should take your old CFL bulbs to Home Depot to be recycled. Home Depot CFL Bulb Recycling Program

No three packs of Sylvanias anywhere at that store that, I could find. Certainly no three packs with the regular stock. There were hardly any Sylvania bulbs at all and absolutely none in three packs.

Is "45006" the Lowes item number ?

I couldn't find any Sylvania 23W 3-packs.

I was up in Tampa, Fl on Waters ave and found a huge cart with all kinds of clearance GE Florescent Bulbs on it. They were $2.80 for a three pack of 100W, like $2.47 for the 75W. Also had the extended life on similar clearance. I picked up quite a bit but left plenty. I went back to the Lowes in Port Charlotte, FL and they had 4 packs of 60W for $1.98 and picked up 6 boxes of those, but they said they had plenty more in the back. Will post the UPC in a bit!

Could say YMMV in the title. I live in NYC and there's no incentives by the power companies to sell CFL's for cheap. Con Ed charge you so much on your electric bill (more than .20 per KWH) that basically force you to buy CFL's at their 'standard' price.
