Ordered one yesterday at 29 AR, so I will try to get my money back for that.

Thanks OP

In for one with Staples reward membership for free shipping.
BTW, brand new one is abour 54 on Amazon.

Is the chance to get my local Staples to PM the online price pretty slim? I saw that the OP was able to get a new product, not refurbished, by doing the PM thing, so I'd go over to my Staples if I can do the same (get a new one instead of a refurbished one). Any thoughts? Thanks.

Don't know about been able to PM online to BM price, I think its YMMV. But I went to couple of Staples in my area. One of them had the brand-new printer for $69, while the other Staples had it for $99. No idea, why the price difference in BM store itself.

Both of these Staples store told me that the BM Staples doesn't carry refurb items. These items will have to be ordered online only. Paying $10 for shipping, bringing the total to $40, doesn't appeal to me much. Its better to get the $70 brand-new printer from BM store itself.

BTW, has anybody been able to get one of these refurb printer from BM store?

Oh, forgot all about my reward membership and free shipping. Thanks a lot for bringing this up. Just ordered the refurb model with free shipping using the reward membership.

Is Reward membership free? Or do you have to have bought so much $$$ from Staples in the past year?

in for one using a 20 off 20 coupon. One can get the coupon on eBay with 10 bucks.
so in total make it 30..

I do have this printer for about a year now. I ran out of color inks pretty soon I could not use the printer even to print in black without the other colors being replaced. I am not sure if there is a way to do this.

I had this machine too... ended up junking it. If even one color runs out (or if the printer thinks its time for the ink to run out), you can not print, period. For example, the printer tells you that you are out of magenta. You want to print a black and white document. The printer will not let you. This is INCREDIBLY frustrating. It was such a pain to own this printer. I lived with it for a couple of years and swore that I'd never buy another Brother product again.

If you had read the Amazon review in Quick Summary, you would have seen this...
Third: the reason the unit will not print anything even if only one cartridge is blank is because it uses a suction type cart (different from most inkjets), and damage to the unit will occur if an empty cartridge is left in.

If I can replace an empty cartridge for less than $3 then I would gladly do it and put up with this minor inconvenience, rather than paying $30+ for some other printer's ink cartridge, that does not have this "issue".

Not sure Uber I saw elsewhere they said to edit your reward number on the checkout page. However there is no link to edit it on my checkout page like I saw a snapshot of. Maybe they made a special page just for me.

Mine is a standard rewards membership that I had opened in store, couple of years back. I haven't bought any item using my rewards membership, so its not like I have a high usage of the membership. I got free shipping for this item, after I had entered the rewards membership number on the checkout page.

UPDATE

My local Staples pm'd the online price ... posted in-store was $99.98 - $40 = $69.98 .... this was for a new unit not refurb ... As for the ink saving tips I can see where "plain paper" is a huge savings as otherwise it would default to glossy/photo and use colored ink in great amounts to get photo quality color saturation... The ink tanks are available from many sources at about $2.50 each; as they have no print heads and are just ink tanks they are foolproof to refill if you want to go that route also...

they gave you the new printer at the refurb price? How did you get them to do that?

Just FYI, i don't think this is a Friday only deal, it was mentioned deal discussion thread about AIOs on wednesday.

Have one of these in the house, and it's an excellent machine. The software controls are good. Better product than Cannon and HP stuff.

just bought printer+QuickBooks and used $25 off $100 = $5 ar+tax

this model doesn't eat up the ink? i've had bad experience on brother AIO before, it just kept eating the ink(when machine was cleaning itself) i had to replace them even i don't use
