This printer is a great deal. I bought the MFC-240 for $50 a year ago. After running out of color , then black ink I looked into refilling the cartriges. Walgreens sells refill kits for less than $20. THIS KIT WILL GET YOU AT MINIMUM 3 REFILLS ON ALL 3 COLORS or 6 WITH THE BLACK KIT. NCR Kit - Color NCR Kit - Black Note: Neither of these kits mention Brother MFC240 as one that they support for refill, the process is very easy though. Take your cartrige and cut the sticker at the back shell. The Beige plastic is only a outer casing that holds the clear, plastic, sealed inner ink reservoir. Pop the outer case halves open to expose the sealed ink reservoir. At this point you can see that Brother, to cut down on weight and cost made the reservoir with no molded plastic sides; instead laminated a plastic skin to both sides (a little thicker than packaging tape). With the larger round 'plug' at the bottom and the 'tit' at the top, puncture a hole *through just one side* and tape the one , or both holes after filling. I filled my cartridges to just under the hole in the frigging top, they do not leak. This has got to be double of what a high capacity cart has for ink. Like I said seal with a piece of tape, packaging tape probably will work the best. On re-refilling I would avoid poking the same hole or pulling the tape back. The whole side along the top is good to poke a new hole into, let alone the whole other side. BTW, to refill a empty Brother cartridge, you will not be able to fit 1 complete NCR ink in one. This leaves you with a partial NCR refill cartridge for next time. |

Just ordered one for my mother-in-law, whose HP printer is out of ink and needs a fax machine. The free label printer and free delivery...gravy. Nice deal! |

Nice deal now. The free label printer and a small filler now gives you the free shipping. Printer + Label Maker + Staples which I need anyhow for under $36 with tax. My Canon all in one just bit the dust so this is right on time. I didn't order earlier because of the shipping charge. Thanx OP! You should update your title. |

OK, asking the stupidest question ever, the printer doesn't come with any ink cartridges at all? |

1) To prevent excessive cleaning, unplug the unit when not in use. 2) To print even after one of the colors is low or empty, several people have mentioned placing a piece of electrical tape over the two reflectors on the side of the ink cart to prevent the photo sensor from telling when the ink is low or empty. This would allow the black to continue to print. |

I've installed three of these now, as well as the higher end networked version of the same machine. Terrific all in one device. At $29, it's a mind-boggling deal. As another poster mentioned, make sure you check the printer tray...that's where they put the ink cartrdges when they package the printer for shipment. |

One question. Since I use only black & white printing, what happens if I refill the color cartridges with black ink? |
