Is this a good deal? I am in the market for a HDTV between 42" and 46". My budget is upto $1350. |
FYI ... return policy: "Televisions (24" or larger) Refunds cannot be given on televisions 24" and larger. In-home service is offered by the manufacturer on large TV's and may be your most convenient option. Defective items may be returned within 30 days of the purchase date for replacement or upgrade. Please insure sufficient packaging is used to protect any return shipments. Customer is responsible for any damage caused due to insufficient packaging." I am not sure if you have a Frys near you if you could go to the store to return it or exchange... |
. if the op says the deal sucks, then the deal sucks, don't argue, buy something else. . |

Good price. I personally think that the Bravia line Sony LCDs are the best entry- to mid-level LCD TVs out there. |

hey is this tv as good as the lower end of the 46'' samsung? I was thinking about getting a lowerend 40'' samsung for about 1100 |
fyi, I hate yet to read anything on avsforum that's permanently bad about the Samsung A550 series... at least nothing you can't get used ot or wouldn't be obvious when you buy it. There's a ton of posts however on people who bought a new Sony, especially the V series, and wound up with little white dots popping up on the screen randomly while watching things. Thay call it 'sparkling'. If you buy this, be prepared to either deal with that or get ready for possibly a couple rounds/weeks of repair visits and swapping lcds that might not even fix the problem (since Sony has not officially acknowledged it at this time). Given how hard it is to track down waht causes a couple stray white pixels in a video feed when you have to deal with the source, the cable, the jack, the HDMI chipset, the bravia engine, the motionflow, etc.... I'd expect it will take them a long time to correct and it probably won't be fixable with a firmware update. As opposed to say banding or clouding on the screen which, while requiring a TV swap, is at least obvious and noticable. The price however is exceptional. Now if only someone could find some hard docuemnted evidence tha the TV changes to 48 or 72hz to run 24fps content....... that's been a bone of contention for a while now |
I'm seriously considering jumping on this, but am a bit hesitant about buying a large TV online, especially with frys.com's return policy stuff and the fact that I am thousands of miles from one. the store sales reps always say shipping back to these places will cost you a fortune when things go wrong, which is probably true, but i assume they're also just being sales people to make you buy from them. as long as you dont have a change of heart and want to return the system, if there are any defects, i assume Sony is the one who takes care of it rather than frys (and thus the whole online buying thing doesnt matter anyway)? any thoughts? |
The airport I work for had somewhat the same issues with Samsung in 06. But Samsung provided great support and their monitors haven't exhibited the same problems since. It was a power supply issue on their 06 units but this was also only applicable to our 60"+ units. |

My understanding is that the S series has the Bravia engine and not the Bravia 2.....and that the S series does NOT suffer from the sparkle effect. Anyone heard otherwise? |
