... I might have bailed on the HD version for the dependability of the ssd, considering the use I have planned.

I don't remember the last time I threw my notebook against a brick wall
I'd much rather taken the increased storage, then worry about some unlikely event.
Even if something were to happen, if you're that worried about your data, wouldn't you be the kind of person who always BACKs UP their data

They also have this model listed, with a 6 cell battery for $418.39 (not in stock yet) which would be an excellent price and more along the lines of where these should be priced at.

Where is this model listed? I couldn't find it.

The post was referring to NCIX, not J&R - Link to the 6-cell battery XP version at NCIXUS

thietlong said:Rebate? You mean the 12% MS Live Search CashBack? I think it should work. I know paypal worked fine with live.com so I assumed there shouldn't be any problem with GCO. To be safe, sign in to your live.com account first before you click on the J&R link.

How did you use paypal? I don't see that option?

Is anyone looking at this going to wait for the 6-cell battery model? Anyone know when it will be available? How much bigger/heavier it will make the laptop?

The 6-cell battery is discussed and photographed in this thread.. Haven't come across any sources on when the A1 with the 6-cell battery will be available in the US - it will probably trickle in over the next couple months, along with 3G/WiMax/BT options. The 6-cell battery sticks out the back by 2.5cm (just shy of 1", at 0.984 inches). Not sure if the MSI Wind's 6-cell battery also sticks out the back.

Thanks.

I jumped in on this Sunday and as of 7pm Monday my status still shows only as submitted.

For those that use J&R, how long does it usually take for your item to move, or how long before they ship?

I need it by Thursday, so ordered it 2nd day air for $15, but am wondering when it will leave J&R.

Thanks

Thanks for that link. Very helpful.

Any price point set for this model? Hopefully it comes sooner than later.

Seems more like fulfillment will be done thru Acer. So all JR is doing right now is piling up the orders.

That blows.
Why do you think it is a hand off to Acer fulfillment?

Page shows usually ships in 1 to 2 days, not that it's a pre-order item.

I'll need to cancel Tuesday if it doesn't ship by then.

Has anyones order changed from submitted to something else?

Can anyone answer this question about paypal?

I would use a full size laptop for most things, I will use this for a bicycle trip, I've alresady killed a hard drive on a bicycle trip so I know from experience, that said I will go with the hard drive option and have a linux bootable SDHC in case of problems. I will also have several portable hard drive with me (audio books, photo storage and backups)

I'm 1 for 3 on killing hard drives as I've had no problem with hard drive based Creative MP3 players though I'll use an N800 solidstate for an MP3 player this time, I did have skipping at times with hard drive based players and I'll less worried with solid state.

I wasn't referring specifically to J&R and Paypal but just generalizing that paypal will work with live.com as a form of payment, so it shouldn't be any problem with google checkout. In term of paypal and j&r, as far as I know, they are only accepting GCO, but if you have a mastercard and still persistent in using paypal as a form of payment, then you could try paypal plugin and see if that works. Good luck

Let us know how this works out for you. I was thinking orders would ship 1-2 days after placed as it says on the website.

got one, seems like a great deal. Replacing a Dell m1210 2.0ghz 160gb 1.5gb ram, DVDRW. I realized i don't need DVD drive anymore as I have 8gb thumb drive, and don't need all that gb storage because no heavy duty music or dvd files as I have a desktop for that, and don't need all that ram cuz I don't play games on a work computer. Best to get rid of it now as it has some value. anyone interested pm me and make serious offer or this sunday i'm going to list on eBay. Thanks OP!

Note that the acer is 2.78 lbs with the 6 cell battery. That's heavy in comparison to 2.19 lbs with the 3 cell. The eeepc is 2.4 lbs with the 6 cell battery. I'd go with the Acer and the 3 cell battery at 2.19 lbs if you only need 2.5 hrs battery or the eeepc and the 6 cell battery at 2.4 lbs if you need 5 hrs battery life.

For only $60 you can get a 10400 mah eeepc battery that will give 8 hrs battery life and weighs the same overall as the acer and the 6 cell battery. In combo with the 6 cell battery this would give you access to 13 hrs battery life overall for an additional $60. So it just depends on your usage needs.

what's attractive to me is the low price and large storage in the acer. You're right. I'd seldom go straight 5 hours without charging. 2.5hrs would be fine for most of my daily usage.

2.4lbs is just awesome.

Yep I seldom use my laptop where there are no outlets anyway

The other side of it is for many people it would be really inconvenient to carry a charger when the notebook fits in your hand since it is the size of a traditional organizer. But everyone is different. Some people always have a bag with them. I personally want to carry mine without accessories.

Is any good ideas quality of the product? Acer doesn't smell too good to me? Thanks
