or not?
Bought 2 4-packs R30 CFLs from Costco also made by FEIT less than 6 months ago. 5 out of the 8 do not light up anymore. They have a 2-year warranty for residential use but try calling their Customer Service Number and all you get is a never-ending wait message.

Not my experience about their customer service. FEIT's CFLs could definitely be more reliable (it's CFL for chrissake), but I never had a problem calling and getting replacement from FEIT (although I do realize I could get replacement from Costco, it was just easier to call and receive replacement in the mail). Some of my warranty claims honored were for purchase more than 2 years old.
Tried a different brand from Lowes, and it was humiliating and impossible to get the warranty honored.

Need to add to the heading:
Don't bother reading this deal if you're a moron
I guess its not just me either. I bought a box of FEIT CFL from Costco, and one of the bulbs didn't work. BTW the CFL made by FEIT has a warm up period. I'd say about 30-50 seconds to light up completely. So between those warm up time, you get a very feint lighting. It gets a little bit annoying from time to time. But since these are cheap w/ the instant rebate and anything to save the earth. GE's CFL lights up very quickly.
Is this a local utility subsidy as most super-hot non-clearance CFL deals are, or is it nationwide?
Any info would be appreciated before I go looking!
Not in Plano. That portion of the ERCOT market is deregulated and there is no utility to subsidize the purchase.
maybe it's just me, but having to worry about potwnitally doing a warranty claim on less than $15 has me thinking about paying more for reliable brands...
For those in Northern California, Grocery Outlet sells compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL) for .25 each (after PG&E instant rebate).

I tried FEITs early on in the CFL boom--same experience, didn't last, possibly worse than regular bulbs. Not helping the earth if we're just generating more mercury-containing trash with strict disposal rules. Hassle, not worth it.

That is regional, depending on the electricity supplier in your region, you might have a different discount amount or not have one at all.

Yeah, I've had WAY too many early failures from these lights. Those "forever" lights seem to fail as fast or faster than incandescents.

Standard CFLs just don't last in my house. I've bought several packages of the 100w replacement (23w?) "indoor/outdoor" CFL flood lights. I've had 1 die on me so far. I replaced the "globe" style bulbs in my 2nd bath with the sealed "globe" CFLs that were on sale at costco over a year ago. Not 1 of them has failed yet. Because I've had such good luck with these and such bad luck with the normal CFL bulbs I've started replacing failing standard CFLs with 14w (60w replacement) CFLs built in a sealed container (looks like a soft white bulb). I've started getting mini-flood light type CFLs at assorted 99 cent city stores. They run 2 for $.99.
just throwing in my $.02
No discount at my store (MA).
Costco in Mass had variety of these dirt cheap last year (Danvers).
As alchemize observes, not so this season. Oh well.
