A battery that lasts a year at 50% does me zero good. I want a battery that allows me to shoot 50 or 60 high res shots ... and then I just swap out another pair.
What other sorts of digital photographs are there? Essentially anything over 1mp is "HD" resolution and how does the resolution of the photo you are taking have anything to do with batteries?
I keep 4 in the charger and rotate regularly - if they cost me 1/3 of what the "best" LSD batteries do I still don't see the benefit ... for me or my family.... These are $1 / per AA. Why would I want to spend 3 times that ?

Uh, maybe you won't always take photos within ten feet of your charger? Or maybe, the idea of swapping batteries out of your remote control, cordless keyboard or mouse, MP3 player, baby monitor etc.... every four or five days or so might get tiresome, do you think?
Somebody mentioned Kodaks and I've bought several sets of their low discharge NiMH batteries and have been a bit disappointed in their performance. Yes, if you install them and let them sit for three weeks, they'll still work, whereas a normal NiMH won't have more than half its charge after a week, but they only last about as long as maybe my first set of 1600mAh NiMH batteries did, maybe less. Furthermore, they are about 1 to 1.5mm larger in diameter than normal AA batteries, so they are hard to get into a lot of items that take a AA battery and almost got permanently stuck deep inside one of my remote controls.
