nice. I've been waiting for Amazon's price to go down (usual price $650) to pull the trigger. Now Amazon has it for $635.99, but this is a better deal (same no tax(CA) and free shipping. I just had to pull the trigger. I also got the Acer 8.5 Laptop at J&R yesterday because of the 12% CashBack. Now it's starting to hurt! I have to stop looking for deals for a while.

I signed up and followed the JandR link through live search. But when I go to checkout, I don't see anything that gives me confidence I'm getting the Cash Back.

canon HG10 would be a better choice than HF100.

The HF10 would be a better option. It has 16GB internal memory. I think both HF models are better than the HG10. But I am no expert. I just got an HV30 and use it for 1 week before it was stolen
The HV30 holds this gold medal in HD camcorders right now. Really, if your getting a one I strongly suggest you get an HV20 or HV30. They use MiniDV tapes but as far as video quality goes, they cannot be beaten.

All the professional reviews I've seen give hats off to a camera like the HF100 as having just as good an HD picture as any other consumer HD camera. That's why I'm curious as to why some are suggesting one over another. In terms of picture quality, this one seems as good as the other options, and for the price, it's a great deal.

The HV20/HV30 have tape noise issues from what I've read

Ok, I have seen many of these j and r deals with the 12% off base on live.com rebate. If the deal requires live. com rebate, then why not use the 25% rebate through eBay for live.com? Or is this for people who have used up their 25%? Or is %25 dead again?
edit: eBay/live is at %15 currently. OP's deal is better. I ordered my hf100 through epay when it was 25% that is why i was asking. But for currently, this is a hot deal.
I have this camcorder and can recommend it. I like having everything on flash cards and at the time it was 200 cheaper than the HF10 with the builtin 16 megs. I bought the class 6 Kinston 8 gig SD card for 32 bucks on Amazon(and Buy.com). This gives about 45 minutes at the highest quality. That card plus the 2 gig I had gives me plenty of recording at a good price.
Thanks - got FS100 instead for half the price, good deal for that as well.

But it should show up in your Live Search CashBack account page within 2 days. I bought this from J&R and the CashBack showed up within a couple of hours.
If you read the reviews on this camera, it's generally said that the AVCHD compression yields picture quality similar to HDV camcorders. I.e., this camera does not suffer from inferior video quality due to poor compression or over-compression, as the first couple generations of AVCHD products did.
Ok, so did anybody that ordered this from JandR get it shipped yet?
I had a call on my home phone today from JandR saying I had to call in and "confirm" the order. I tried calling (3 minutes before they were supposed to be closed) but I got a message saying to call back in the morning.
Is this some type of ripoff joint now. gotta listen to them try to sell me memory cards or something? I haven't ordered from JandR since I was a kid ordering car stereo stuff over the phone.
Awww...just pulled the trigger. Now looking for a bigger SD card. Thanks OP for pointing this one out!

I ordered it on Wednesday and they didn't shipped till Friday. So on Friday I called them and said if they can't ship by the end of the day Friday, I'll cancel the order. They Immediately shipped the my HF100 and I got the tracking number.
I don't know why they do this kind of stunt, but probably worth $75 CashBack
Agreed. I have this camara for over two months and love it.
Question, though, how do you play back? It seems only playing back with the camera hooked directly to TV can give the best image. I tried to play the files on computer, even my Dell dual core 2.8G has jittering problem.
To play back with HF100, you must keep the whole file/fold structure it was originally recorded. Otherwise it won't play.
I heard people playing the video with Sony PS3 using USB drive. But I don't have one.
Any other ideas?

Yeah, it went down. Probably have to wait until black Friday for another sale.
I got my order from J and R and was wondering...was the hand strap already on the HF100 camcorder already? Mine was already on and I am not sure if it's been used before. Also when I tried to playback the video using mini-HDMI to HDMI to my tv, the pictures were shaky. I had to hold the mini-HDMI side tight to the camcorder to get a good picture. Nervous if I should return it. Thanks.
The HF100 comes with the hand strap already on... I can't speak about the shaky picture issue, though.
I understand what you're saying, though.. because the camera is running you near $600 and you want to make sure there is no previous history, like somebody's kid dropped the camera and they returned it, and there were no marks on it, but might, somehow affect the performance in the long run or whatever the situation might have been... I'm not saying this is true - but I understand what you're saying - some people are not in a financial position to just go and pick up another camera a year down the line.
