Theatre Communications Group (TCG), the national organization for the not-for-profit American theatre, developed this exciting and innovative national audience development initiative to attract new audiences and raise public awareness about live theatre. As TCG continues to roll out the Free Night program across an expanding national stage, the program provides a unique opportunity for theatres nationwide to collaborate on a project that provides access for new audiences to experience the joy of theatre for the first time. Free Night of Theater 2008
In 2008, Free Night continues its success of introducing the program into regions of the country currently not represented in the program. We are pleased to announce the inclusion of Baltimore, Chicago, Dallas and New York City (more cities to be announced) in the Free Night 2008 program. TCG will continue to partner with APASO organizations and arts councils to produce Free Night in 2008, with the goal to present the program in over 100 cities across the country, expand individual theatre participation to 750 theatres, which will in turn offer up to 75,000 free tickets nationally.
To learn more about the 2008 program, including details on participating communities, theatres and performances, please check out the Find a Show and Locations pages.
Does anyone know how does it work? I tried to reserved for the show, went to the website, and they asked me to pay? Sorry, I've never done before. Should we go to the theatre and reserve the tickets there? Thanks in advance for your help!

You won't be able to reserve the free tickets until October. Some cities start earlier or later. I started adding some of the dates in cities in the summary.
Bump for those in Chicago. Some shows already sold out, others still available.

Bump. Baltimore area became available at 9:00 a.m. Many shows are sold out already. Other areas start offering tickets at different times this morning, so if you're interested, hurry!
Signed up for tickets in Portland, and got email confirmation. But no mention of how to use this. Do we just bring the email, wait for tickets in the mail, or will they be at will-call?
Also wanted to get parents some tickets in another city under the 'Participating Regions Not Using the National Website' (Eugene, OR), but the pages they link to have no mention of this promotion. Any idea how this works for them?

It says the instructions under the FAQ
basically you print out the email and bring it to the ticketbox 30 minutes before the show to claim your ticket.

"Where do I pick up my tickets?
Print your confirmation page and bring it to the theatre’s box office one half hour before the show time. "
Thanks legends, That is specific for NYC, but will assume same rules for the other coast, since nothing like that on the main site, email, or Portland pages.
