Verizon High Speed Internet Offer 6 months free on 1 year contracts. I visited www.verizon.com

Typed in my phone number on the home page where it asks to check the availability in your area.

My phone number is 703-938-xxxx. (Northern Virginia). After I hit enter a page popped up asking whether I want FIOS internet or high speed broadband.

I dont want to spend money on FIOS since I use Internet only on weekends, so I chose high speed.

It then spitted out following plans on next page. I have pasted the info from its website below:

Wow this is an AWESOME deal, either lock in your rate for life(2yr commitment) or six months FREE on a one year contract, and it's the FIRST six months to boot!

in my area, it keeps telling me that internet is not available without a phone number. Isn't there some way around that? I seem to remember reading that they were obligated to provide dry loop dsl.

Any deal for existing customer ? I wish they have more competition in my area, but Verizon is the only provider here....

It spat out, not "spitted" out.

If we voted you out of this thread would that be spat you out or spitted you out. Ah the agony of irregular English verb.

to get the 6 months free, you have to sign up for phone or tv also. You can't get JUST dsl and get 6 months free

For dry-loop DSL in NoVA, I have to pay an extra $5/month. I'm not sure how much the phone service costs. Aztec, how much do you pay? So I would compare [$24.95 x 12 months] to [($19.95 + phone service) x 6 months] to evaluate. I don't have or need home phone service. Also, I'm trying to check with Verizon to see if they might offer the 6-months free promotion with dry-loop service, though I would guess not.

I signed up for Verizon Fios about 1 1/2 years ago...it's fast. However, they have increased the price to about $52/month. That's way too much for internet. When you sign up for Fios...they make you sign a waiver that you will not go back to traditional DSL..even if you sell the house. Fios stays with the property for infinite time. Now, i want to go back to Verizon DSL for $19.99 per month..i can't. So be cautious when you sign up for Fios. Anybody know how to get around this? I need basic DSL for around $20/month.

No you don't have to do that, at least it did not ask that to me. Right now I have just Verizon landline phone service with unlimited long distance from them. Even they gave a good offer to me for that too, since I had switched to AT & T for my local service so they gave me unlimited local + unlimited long distance for just 19.99/month for 1 year.

To top it, as usual when I received my first bill it had a charge of $44.95/month for above plan. Upon questioning this and faxing them proof of their offer, they further screwed my account """for good"""", that I ended up paying not more than $10.XX/ month for both unlimited local and unlimited long distance for last one year.

Recently one year passed so they gave me a new rate of $29.99/month for above plan, so I am still okay with it.

So the bottom line is that I was not asked to sign up for tv or cable to get 6 months free on one year internet plan. Please check maybe it is area dependent promotion.

Only strategy I can suggest is cancel Fios, switch to Comcast Internet and then try signing up for DSL as a "switchover" customer. Also, you might try the retention department when canceling Fios. Good luck and let us know what happens.

You were not asked to sign up because Verizon generally doesn't pair DSL with other services AND you already have POTS home phone service. Also, it almost always prefers DSL customers to have phone service. So this promotion likely doesn't work on dry-loop, though I'm still on hold with the genius CSRs at Verizon trying to figure it ou.

Sorry I don't understand the tech terminology and abbreviations like POTS and DRY-LOOP etc. Just signed up and got this offer so thought of telling everyone in good faith.
