Hey all! This is my first, so be gentle. Sony Style is offering $150 Cash Back on the first purchase with their credit card.

They are offering the 80GB PS3(new one that doesn't support PS2 games) for $399.

So here it goes.

1. Apply the Sony Visa Card and receive a $150 card credit after your first purchase of $299 or more at SonyStyle.com Link.
2. Purchase Sony PlayStation 3 80GB for $399.99 and pay with Sony Card Link
3. Final Price: $399.99 - $150 Credit = $249.99 + Free Shipping

Pre-sale. PS3 80GB available on or about 09/01/2008.

Sony Card Benefits:
* 12 months no interest on purchases of $299 or more at SonyStyle
* Full Platinum Visa® benefits
* 5 Sony Rewards Points per $1 spent at SonyStyle.com, and Sony Style® stores3
* Exclusive members-only deals on Sony products
* Get a $150 card credit after your first qualifying purchase of $299 or more

extremely misleading. If you count in the $150 on first purchase, you could come up with billions of deals for free!

He just wants a free tshirt.

We weren't gentle.

I changed the title so it isn't so misleading. Still a hot deal for me.

It is a great deal since you truly get a $150 credit. Nothing misleading about the post.

why all the red. I like this. Tough crowd eh!

After you apply for the card, do you get instant credit, or do you have to wait for snail mail in order to order the PS3?

It will appear in your account 8-12 weeks after purchase.

Does it say the PS3 is a "qualifying purchase"?

****edit*****

for insaneoctane, it says you get your cc number and cvv on approval. you are allowed one purchase with that info before you get the card. so you don't have to wait to make the purchase, but you do have to wait to get the credit.

Actually it isnt a bad post. And yes this does work. I did it with the MGS4 bundle. Got my credit a few weeks after I made the purchase with my card. I combined this with the $100 gift card deal Wal Mart was doing a few months ago...and I LOVE my PS3. Was a great buy!!

i signed up...
dont know why.
i dont want a ps3.

Actually, the question I meant to ask was do I have to wait for snail mail to receive my credit card? Do I receive the info online and can order the PS3 same day? Or, do I wait for a CC to arrive in the mail, then order the PS3?

When I signed up they gave me the # right there after they approved my card online....I was able to use it and buy the unit 2 minutes after I applied for the card. Of course, back when I did it....it was only for $100, and the 40GB was $400.

You get a one time use CVV number so you can make a purchase without having to wait for your card. Once you use it you have to wait till you get it in the mail to use it again

Quick question. I thought the 80GB units were actually the only ones that were in fact backwards compatible with PS2 games. Is that no longer the case? I thought it was only the current 40GB units that were missing that feature. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

edit: sorry, I just read on the site that the new 80GB doesn't have BC except for PS1 games.

you can buy ANYTHING 299+ and get 150 back, doesn't have to be from Sony.

FWF thread

if this is considered hot, you can also make threads to buy 360s, ipods, laptops, lcds for 150 less

Looks good to me. If I am not mistaken, the following would be true:

Apply for Sony card today and purchase today.
Twelve month no interest so I can wait until I get credited the $150 and make payment after that.
The 80gb is "software compatible" with PS2 games.

My total was about $418 (including tax) and free shipping.

I don't think so, Tim. Quote from the Sony Card page:
1. Sony Card is issued by Chase Bank USA, NA, and is subject to credit approval. Your first single sales receipt purchase made at a SonyStyle store, including SonyStyle.com equal or greater than $299 ("Qualifying Purchase") will automatically qualify you for a $150 Statement Credit.

All that being said, looks like the PS3's are out of stock right now.

good chance of getting that much for it at auction?

This is amazing -- a PS3 for $249!! Even for use as only a blu-ray player, this is a steal.

THANKS!

In past they gave $100 Credit and yes it had the same quote/terms mentioned above, but worked for anything $299 and above. Upon receiving my credit card, I purchased a desktop from Dell online and received my first bill with the $100 credit. Of course, Sony may have caught up on this and may or may not work on other items besides SonyStyle purchases but now $150 off on SonyStyle is still a great deal.

Is there an annual fee for this card? I can't seem to find that info. Also you just need to keep this card until you get the credit back right? Besides the 150 credit, the rewards seem pretty lousy.

no annual fee and yes, you need to keep it until you get the 150 credit, of course.

Anyone know how long between cancelling an old Sony card and applying for this card to qualify for the $150 bonus? I think it has been a few months, but want to make sure before applying. Thanks.

I'm really baffled by the red. With the $100 price drop by Sony and the $150 credit for opening the card a PS3 is roughly half off. Plus they give you 18 months interest free so you don't need to pay the bill until after the credit shows up in 8-12 weeks.

never get rid of your oldest card. that'll hurt you credit score.

I applied for the card but did not get any type of confirmation email. Is there any way to get the confirmation and make purchase now instead of waiting for snail mail?

I never understood the decision to stop supporting PS2 games in either hardware or software unless it was purely marketing to get peopel to buy newer more expensive games instead of old used games.

I mean saying it's too expensive to include PS2 processing on a PS3 is like saying it's too expensive to keep putting MMX on new CPU's since programs all use the mroe advanced SSE and 3Dnow anyway. Could you imagine that ?

The new 80 GB version is basically the old 40 GB version with a bigger HD which means no backwards compatibility. I read somewhere that future PS3's will no longer have backwards compatibility at all.

insaneoctane said: After you apply for the card, do you get instant credit, or do you have to wait for snail mail in order to order the PS3?

My credit was applied directly to my account. It only took about 3 days after I made the purchase for the credit to appear.

This is a killer deal as it was previously only a $100 credit.

Hey guys, i'm obviously a nOOb at this FatCash thing. But i actually got this deal when it came out and i read it here. I went directly to the SonyStyle site and made the order....is there anyway to get the 3% Cash Back post order?

The only console that is fully backwards compatible is the 60GB version.

This might be a dumb question, but is it easy to cancel the credit card? And are there any penalties you might have to pay? Also how long until you get to use the credit?

I wanted to sign up and use the credit then immediately cancel the card, is this possible?

The 20GB is also fully backwards-compatible.

I got the $100 credit about a year ago, and the language was definitely not the same. While you were encouraged to spend the money at SonyStyle (you could make a purchase at the time of application), it was clearly stated that the $100 credit was good for any purchase over $299. That's not the case any more.

SmashNGrab said: never get rid of your oldest card. that'll hurt you credit score.

Well, kind of. That can be misleading. The problem with cancelling credit cards is you can hurt your available/total credid ratio which can hurt your score. If you have no balances on any of your cards you can cancel them with no penalty to your score.

At least that is how I understand it. So if you have 10k in available credit with 5k taken up you have 50% of your credit available. If you cancel a few cards and now have 6k in available credit and 5k taken up you now look a lot worse on paper.

hawaiian2002 said: I applied for the card but did not get any type of confirmation email. Is there any way to get the confirmation and make purchase now instead of waiting for snail mail?

When I signed up there was a approval screen that came up with my CC number and a temporary CVV number. No email with that info. So if you missed that screen then you can probalby try calling them, otherwise you are waiting for snail mail.

From the SonyStyle page (only on the $499 console):

"PLAYSTATION®3 (80GB)Take your gaming to the next level with the 80GB PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system featuring PlayStation®2 backward compatibility***, new DUALSHOCK®3 wireless controller and the highly-anticipated Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots game.

The old MGS 80GB bundle is different than this 80GB PS3. This does NOT have backward compatibility. That is why the MGS 80GB is $100.00 more.
