Good reviews on NewEgg and TigerDirect
BTW OP, you misspelled Sceptre in the title
Bad reviews on Amazon. 2 reviews reported the TV crapped out within 60 days

Its COSTCO, who cares? 90 return policy, and 2 year warranty. Cant beat that anywhere else. Heck in 90 days the 52's will probably be hitting this price point and return it for a bigger screen. ![]()

You prefer average consumer reviews over reviews from techies?

First of all, I could only find one review on Amazon for the TV, and it said it started to occasionally exhibit issues 8 months later, not crapped out within 60 days.
Second of all, if you'd prefer to trust the opinions of users who have no idea how to configure or even properly take care of their electronics, then by all means, trust the reviews on Amazon. Many of which, I might add, often are not even reviews of the product, but reviews of Amazon itself or the shipping company.
I, however, would prefer to trust the opinions and reviews of users who actually know what they're doing and what they're talking about.
EDIT: link and quotes
Great price on an average set. You give up a little performance between this and a tier one company, but you do get size. The fact is unless you've been exposed to the performance of a tier one company the old saying ignorance is bliss will apply. The nice part is Costco's extended warranty protects you longer than most.
Just ordered.
When I've ordered T.V.s from Costco before, they always come cracked. It usually takes 2 or 3 tries before I get a non-cracked one. Hopefully this one will be O.K.
I had an old Sceptre 37" set - it was the first "inexpensive" 1080p set - I think I paid $1,800 and that was a smoking deal at the time. Anyways, it was busted right out of the box, but AVSforums helped me get it sorted. However, over the course of the next few years, other things started going wrong - the ATSC tuner blew, speakers didn't work, etc. When the HDMI out went, I took advantage of the old Costco warranty (I was grandfathered in) and returned it. Sceptre customer service was horrible, inattentive, and generally useless. I feel bad that Costco had to eat that, but the person who handled my return said that Sceptre sets were such a problem - they were always getting them back broken.
This was about a year ago that I got rid of it, hopefully they've stepped up in the time since.
Smells like some funk to me - asking for trouble on something this cheap
No one saw the $150 in Costco cash cards if you get DirecTV along with the TV? With a 6-8 week delivery on the rebate, that's an easy $90 cheaper if you get the $30 plan, then cancel. Or if you want DirectTV, get a more expensive plan for $18 off for 12 months (at least in western Washington). This may be the month I kick Comcast to the curb.
Don't forget the AAA DirecTV deal.
Now available for $899.99 + $79.99 S/H. Anyone know if Costco B&M carries this?
I've been waiting for the price point for a 42" - 46" LCD to drop to a comfortable range... but when we saw this on Coscto online, what with just about every feature I was looking for...well, enough was enough: we bought it on the spot... free shipping included. (BTW: it was actually 899.00!).
We received the TV within 5 days (UPS ground) and even though the UPS people stacked the box upside down in the truck, it was obvious the inside packaging could take a fair amount of abuse; everything was were it was supposed to be with nary a scratch.
Pros: -Very decent picture (once you normalize/optimize). Excellent price-point. Good overall set of features. Plenty of digital connectors.
Cons: -Out of the box, the picture needed tweaking (badly!), and the backlight and brightness were cranked up so high, that it out-shone our 100 gal saltwater/live rock tank with high-output lighting (quad 65wat 120k bulbs): I mean, this TV was bright!
- I found that (intermittently) when I press on the channel up/down key (either on the remote that came with the TV or the Comcast remote i programmed) the 'Source' will change from HDMI1 to 'TV'...!? This has happened several times now, and I thought I might be able to get around this by setting the order of the 'sources' to HDMI1 being at the top of the list, but that wasn't an option. Still, it's more of a nuasience (sp) than anything else.
Yes, as others, I also was kind of hesitant about a 46" lcd for only 9 bills... BUT... this is Coscto, so our exposure is somewhat lessened (at least to a tolerable degree) Besides, ALL LCD & Plasma TVs have been dropping in price, and I'm betting that I will be able to upgrade to a tier 1 mfg within the 90 days, to a comparable size LCD.
Terrible company. I would never by a product made by them.
When my company used to order this brand for us, many "new" LCD monitors that came from this company looked clearly used, or made using recycled parts. Lots of failed monitors. Some doa, some failing during the 1 year warranty these had, and most just outside of the warranty. Ugghh
I'm sure they make their TVs better. ![]()
