Epson has very expensive cartridges and no generics are available (In the US anyway) Toss it when the cartridges are empty.

I never have. Always paid less than $1.50. The carts for my last Epson printer, an 880, were .79 for black and 1.50 for color until this year. Good thing the carts for my Canon 3000 are only a dollar each.
