I don't get 11x14s so much anymore but this is a great price for quality prints for those who do.

Adorama is a pro lab here in NYC.

http://www.adoramapix.com/

Little by little their shipping and same day delivery prices have been going up so this is probably a better deal for someone who will be ordering a LOT of images.

From the email...

Prices on our 11x14s have been leveled to $1.99 for ANY paper type. Every 11x14, from the Royal Glossy to the top–of–the–line Endura Metallic is just $1.99.

$1.99 is a great price for 11x14 prints! Get it now, get it three months from now, get it a year from now with prepaid prints!
P.S. We’ve just been informed that Kodak will be raising their paper prices in the very near future due to increases in the cost of petroleum, silver and freight. In light of these increases, our prices are due to go up as well; we will not be able to repeat these sale prices. Ever. If you like 11x14 and want this lower price, lock in the price and order prepaid prints NOW.

* Cannot be combined with any other offer. Expires 8/31/08. Pick up fee may apply.

GREAT price for the Endura Metallica paper...thanks OP.

Lock in that price now?! Very cool. I'm headed on a big trip where I'll have many pics to print but not by the 8/31 deadline. I'll pay in advance

how bad is shipping ? I've been meaning to take advantage of this deal as it's come and gone forever....maybe I'll do it this time. I am just so behind on my photo sorting. =(

-g

print is 6.95 for first 10, 1 dollar for each additional 10. I have used their metallic print, and its fantastic. Very good lab, far above and beyond anything you get at your local costco or walgreens (I print at costco all the time)

Great to have several of these pre-paid for when I want them later (which inevitably is NOT during a sale). I'll also second the quality of the Endura Metallic which looks amazing with my Black & White and Duotone Images (someday I may even have to try a color photo).

I agree - but how about the silk and lustre? Any recommendations on when to use different types of paper?

Don't forget Microsoft Live Cash Back @ 6%!!

They used to have free pick up in NYC but now they charge 1.95 if the order is below $10.

foosmaster5000 said: GREAT price for the Endura Metallica paper...thanks OP.Why is it called Metallica paper? Does it come with a watermarked image of James, Lars, Kirk and whatever the new bass player's name is? (Cliff? James? Who?)

That would be cool!

The metallic paper for color looks amazing. Colors just pop! Adorama does a really good job. Highly recommended.

What's the ideal megapixel count for JPGs being submitted for 11x14 endura metallica prints? I have a Canon S3 which is only 6MP.

been waiting for this!

6mp is fine. I sold a bunch of images shot with my D70, which was 6mp, too.

Thanks tashayar!

For casual shots of friends and social events and action sports I assume the ENDURA METALLIC everyone's raving about would be great. I pre-paid for 25 of these right off the bat.

Im going to TWO weddings in the next month, both with indoor and outdoor settings. I'm thinking LUSTRE over the other options. Does anyone with first-hand experience with these quality papers think that's my best move?

any idea how 4mp will look at 11x14? that's probably pushing it to the limit.

Just prepaid for 25 prints - $49.99 cannot be beat. However, I am not sure how much shipping will be. Gotta gather some of my best 25 images. I have an older HP Photosmart 945 that shoots spectacular 5MP images. Do you think these would be good for 11x14 ? If not, I will have to make do with my 6MP images from my Powershot S3. Anyways, thanks, OP

Anyways, thanks, OPHere's a list found online that correlates megapixels to print size (at 300dpi). These numbers look a little rough, but I went through an example to calculate your resolution/print size below which is apparently more accurate...

* 2 megapixels = 1200 by 1600 pixels = 4 by 5.3 inches
* 3 megapixels = 1536 by 2048 pixels = 5 by 7 inches
* 6 megapixels = 2400 by 3000 pixels = 6.5 by 10 inches
* 10 megapixels = 2592 by 3872 pixels = 8.5 by 13 inches
* 12 megapixels = 4368 by 2912 pixels = 9.7 by 14.5 inches

To use your 6 megapixel camera as an example, your resulting photo's pixel dimensions are probably 2400x3000 so if you take the shorter side of your photo and divide that by your desired level of print resolution (say 300dpi) you get 2400/300 which yields a print at 8 inches (short side). In a similar fashion, you can calculate the print resolution by dividing the pixel dimensions by the image size (in inches) so 2400px/11in which yields a print resolution of 218 dpi. Fortunately, a print at this size need not be printed at the very highest photo quality resolution to look great, 218 dpi is about magazine level resolution. Odds are you won't be right up close to a print like this so viewing distance probably doesn't warrant the highest possible resolution.

On another note, "Rezzing Up" your image (turning up the resolution in a program like photoshop) will do NOTHING for your image quality. It WILL needlessly bloat your file size and blur your details. Having worked for a digital print shop for several years, we were never able to drive that fact home with many people. Yes there are many fractal algorithm using applications out there to attempt to interpolate image information (genuine fractals), and they may actually do more good than harm, but your average joe knows nothing of these programs so we only rarely saw them in use.

Shipping rate -6.95 first 10 prints - is for poster prints, price for regular sizes is $4.95 first 100 prints - 100 plus prints $5.95.

Adorama processed photo's come out great. Will definitely get some prepaids on this deal. Now to wait for 5x7 and 8x10 to go on sale too

EDIT: their online tool will assess your picture resolution when you upload them. It will tell you on a scale if the pic resolution is good for the size of the photo so you can judge for yourself before you click to submit the purchase. I shoot in RAW, Photoshop (if needed), save as uncompressed TIFF to Adorama.

Try sending a Level 10 Jpeg sized to the final print and saved fresh from your TIFF file.
This is the way alot of PRO labs have their clients upload images if you use an FTP upload. If you tried sending 100 tiff files it would take forever even on a Cable line.
My labs have both tested TIFF against a fresh Level 10 Jpeg and have found NO difference in the final prints and it keeps their systems moving.

Great deal on the 11x14's. We are ordering several sample 16x20's and bigger from Adorama as part of the poster print sale. Now I may have to preorder some 11x14's

taipan, thanks for that informative post. Didn't want to quote the whole post. But really appreciate it.

is 25 the minimum number for pre-order? (like 1000 is the min for 4x6s)

Shipping is free with coupon code LSFS0708, if you order for more then 10 dollars.

Thanks for the coupon Nissy!!!

If you go for the metalic, be aware of your color range. Prints on it look great, but if you have too much "unintentional pure white" (i.e. blown highlights) in it, prints look kinda crappy. You can get away with a bit sloppier photos on different paper.

Deal expires today - If you want paper samples before you make prints, you can email ingridspangler@adoramapix.com requesting some. You can say you saw her offer on the fredmiranda forums. Normally metallic is about a buck a print extra, so if you're thinking of doing a pre-order, go for that paper.

BTW... if anyone gets the ms live CashBack, can you post here? I suspect I won't see a penny, but went for it anyways. 7% on $500 wouldn't be terrible.
