Numbers to contact
1-888-257-2433 (Digital River/ Windows Market Place)
1-866-234-6020 (M$ Tech support)
1-800-936-5700 (M$ Customer care)

From what they told we do not need to pay for the media. but that may change. It is not a scam. It is genuine from M$.
They were not well prepared for this launch.

michal1980 said:Its like buying a zr1, but never taking it above 65mph. Whats the point?More like buying a ZR1 (which has its own issues, but that's aside), then finding out that the back seat and trunk are completely filled with cinderblocks that can't be removed. Pretty outside, but not exactly a performer.

My favorite thing to do is try to copy lots of small files across a network with a Vista machine. A few minutes' transfer on XP can easily bloat to a 20-30 minute wait, which I find inexplicable and inexcusable.

Now I'll sit back and wait for the replying ad hominem attack(s)...

I have run Windows Vista for around a year and half and I LOVE IT, it protect you more from WEB intruders, viruses, and spam, Get it and YOU LOVE IT, make sure you have 2GB of memory or more to LOVE IT.

I called up Digital River and was told that they have a created a separate department to handle all this specific issues. And that they will get back to us via email on what's the remediation will be. What I don't understand is how complicate this can be for them to get back to us. It is simply either fixed the link on the download file or send us the discs or cancel our orders.

Anyway, I will be look out for the email.

Don't forget that you can use an upgrade disc to create a full install without need for prior installation of Windows. You end up with retail for the price of upgrade. =)

Install Vista without entering your serial during install, it will forget that it is an upgrade (same disc as retail, the serial tells it to do an upgrade install). Proceed with install and it will go into "trial mode". Then reboot after you've passed "first boot". This time enter your serial and it will treat the trial as the old version being upgraded. Tada.

Does Vista Ultimate student edition have Word and Excel? I purchased it believing it did but it is not on there.

Vista is slow and a resource hog for the majority of PC users. There are some people who actually can take advantage of a few of the features it offers over XP, but they're more the exception rather than the rule.

It's not exactly rocket science for most people to determine that Vista just runs slower than XP, all things being equal, on their PC. In fact, my experience has convinced me that Vista even runs slower than XP SP3 with TWICE the amount of RAM.

Poor Microsoft; they can't seem to get anything right lately. Even their new commercials featuring Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates are bizarre, not the least bit funny, and actually don't even have a logical theme - it's as if Microsoft said "hey, look at those clever Apple computers with the guy from the Daily show and the other guy!," and called their marketing firm and told them to "get a big name celebrity and make cool commercials like Apple!." The end result is terrible.

This has been the case with anything Vista related dating back to when it was known as Longhorn.

So I have a systems builder copy of 32-bit premium Vista, i have already installed it on one computer, but could I use it on the new computer so I can "upgrade" to my copy of Vista Ultimate.

I paid the $13 for the back up disk. I'm assuming this will have all the files. If anyone knows differently please post.

How do you get Windows VISTA Ultimate there?

Click on Additional Products

I cannot seem to get any additional products to come up. I can see Vista Ultimate, but I cannot click on it.

As a note, Vista Ultimate is the only OS that will let you use more than 3 gb of ram. I have 4 gb and my Vista Professional(? - mid level vista) will only recognize 3. Highly annoying.

As a "true" note, all version of XP and Vista recognize around 3gb of your RAM if you have 3gb+, on x86 versions (32bit version), all XP and Vista x64 versions (64bit version) will recognize your entire RAM

Update from SD thread:

Digital River only gave customers a link to 1 of 3 required downloads for Vista.

Here are the links to the other 2 pieces for the 32 bit version:

Boot.wim (126 MB): http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/msshus/vista32/boot.wim
Install.wim (2.6GB): http://msft-dnl.digitalrivercontent.net/msvista/pub/msshus/vista32/install.wim

No need to logon to download them.

These were sent to a complaining customer in an email. I have used them to download the files but haven't used them to install yet. Those links could go away once they fix the download page.

If any FW customers bought the 64 bit version and got a similar email, please post the links for those files.

Note: someone posted they were rejected when they tried to download the small .exe file on the Digital River download page because they exceeded the number of allowed attempts; they claim they only downloaded it a few times. So its POSSIBLE the morons at DR count every time you logon to your download page as an attempt. Consider that if you keep checking the page to see if they have fixed it to include links to all 3 downloads.
