I have been using my old telephone number to order stuff for two years, and I know it's for delivery purpose.
But they canceled my order without informing, and the reason is I provided an incorrect number, which was my number two years ago. They said they use the telephone number to verify identity, and the number I provided when ordering was not the one I use like two years ago. This is so ridiculous!!! Never ever meet this kind of things before, no sellers asking me for the telephone number to verify my identity, what a stupid method!

Buy.com scammed me too with the phone # bit and cancelled my order too. My phone number has been the same on the account for years. They said to reorder it but of course it's no longer available, go figure. This was a total scam!!!!!!!!!!!
