Just a heads up for any small business owners: The GVWR on the CX-9 is over 6000 lbs. That means you can write off up to $25,000. I plan to buy one on Dec 31st, drive to the bank and claim 100% business use, thus getting the full $25,000 tax deduction. I will basically save $9000 in taxes for buying this vehicle. If the $9000 off MSRP is still valid, I might be at $18,000 off MSRP for this vehicle. $18,000 off the Motor Trend truck of the year, that would be a very HOT deal. |

Yes, I'm self employed. I don't think there are any requirements except taxable earnings. If you made $2000 with a side business then it won't help you much to write off $25,000. Although I think you would be able to deduct from your regular earnings too. But you need to talk to an accountant about that. From my understanding, the vehicle must be used over 50% for business. If you use it 51% for business, you could only deduct 51% of the $25G. In addition, it has to be used over 50% for business for the following years too. If it isn't, that write off will be re-captured. It's called a section 179 deduction. You can google it. |

Does anyone know which dealer still have special in Houston/Austin area? Thanks. errickson said:You betcha --- at least here in Houston they are. I saw at least 3 (when I went to p/u my plates over the wknd) similar to the one I bought that could be had for ~ $17K + ttl...
Username372 said:errickson said:I know this is a CX-9 titled thread, but wanted to add I purchased (last night) a 2008 CX-7 / 2wd / base sport for $17,300 + ttl. Added the 10yr/100K mile "total care" plan for $1350. Just ordered several accessories from Med Center Mazda online for 23% off / free ship / no tax.
So basically got a new 2008 CX-7 with a sticker of $25K for $18K driveout. That's the same price range as a Toyota Corolla with a few options! And this aint no Corolla! (zoom-zoom)
Wow - great deal. Congrats. Are the mazda incentives still going on? |

I just purchased a CX-9 GT with homelink, moonroof, remote start, tow package, AWD, Blk with Tan leather (has everything except DVD player) for $32,650 MSRP was $41,325 in Wisconsin. This is just over $8,600 off. I can tell you that there are not many CX-9's left in the Milwaukee area. Only Hall Mazda and Russ Darrow Mazda have a few, Amato only has 2 left and Concours has no 2008 CX-9's left. I used the info on this site when dealing with the sales guy so thank you for the heads up. |

I had the same thing in mind when we bought our CX-9 1.5 months ago although we needed a new family vehicle regardless. I talked with our business accountant and was told that in order to take the SUV deduction you also need to depreciate the vehicle over 5 years and if you don't keep it or can't show proper business use over the 5 years there are penalties and the original tax benefit would need to be repaid. We got a white CX-9 GT with nav at $9500 off MSRP. Great price on a great vehicle! |

If you sell the vehicle the before 5 years, the IRS will "recapture" a portion of the tax credit based on how long you had the car. You can't buy it Dec 31, write off $25G, take the tax credit then sell it on Jan 1 and make $9,000. They will recapture that amount. I assume if only keep it for 2.5 years, your recapture would be $4500. After 5 years, it is completely depreciated. Also, you must use the vehicle more 50% of the time for business. |
