kzookid said:I wonder if they have a rebate for the Mazda 5? When negotiating the price, the rebates come from the car company right? So When they give you a price at a dealer with the rebate, then they're using that to buffer themselves with the price you want? Not sure if you're referring to the Mazda5 (mini-minivan) or the MX-5 Miata. If it is the Mazda5, run as far away as you can. Purchased new 06 Mazda5 in April 06 and finally got rid of it last month. Paid $18K+ ($22K MSRP) and Edmunds, KBB showed a trade-in value @ $14K in <12 months. When traded got $11K after initially being offered $10K (traded for >$35K vehicle). Vehicle was bought new with ~40 miles on the odometer, traded with ~22K miles. During the 2 years of ownership:
- Front passenger airbag replaced
- Driver side air bag replaced
- OEM Toyo tires replaced @ 18K miles with dealer bal, rot and alignment every 6K miles
- Dealer unable to find water leak
- Paint (white pearl) chipped easily and discolored
- Two TSBs requiring 2 day downtime for both instances
and these were the BIG things. Vehicle was not in an accident during ownership. Airbags failed requiring replacement and 3 day downtime while parts ordered and installed in both instances. That will be our last Mazda after 2 great previous ownership experiences. This wasn't our first Mazda (1st and 2nd gen RX7) nor first service with selling dealer. |

Thanks for the quick reply. webxplore said: DamnoIT said: Picked one up this last weekend, Sport with 2k in options for 9k off MSRP. Thanks for the heads up OP Would you mind posting your driveout price on the sport along with any options that the car has? Thanks
Sport Trim AWD w/ Bose&Moonroof, Auto dimming/homelink mirror, roof rails, all weather mats, power seat for 25,095 + sales tax on the rebate + 75doc + 120 out of state sale fee + state reg fees ~ effectively a 26.4% discount over MSRP. Edmunds is saying others are paying $32229 - that is skewed. |

SmashNGrab said:Offer them cash and they knock another $2500 from the price. Carpe Diem. Why would they take less for cash if they make money off selling finance packages and if you finance it elsewhere they still get the full amount before you get your car? Cash discounts apply to 1) situation where the seller floats the balance 2) they are trying to avoid credit card or 3) a business is trying to do a transaction off the books to save on taxes. Since none of these apply to a new car dealer, what is the reason they would give a cash discount? I would seem to me tellin a dealer you have cash only lowers your position. |

Good timing for me, picked one up yesterday for $9,500 off. I am considering the backup camera accessory. It integrates into the rearview mirror, any opinions? Or better yet any way to get a deal on one |

What trim was this and what were the options - GT, Touring, or just sport. What's your tip for negotiating with the dealer on such a large discount. Did you have to haggle for long? Thanks. |

I got the touring with MSRP of 31,615. I got it for 22,174 which is 9,441 below sticker. I also had to pay $400 in dealer prep +TTD, so it depends on how you count the $s you could say it was 9k below sticker. It did take some negotiation, almost walked out 3 times but what the hell, they threw in a baseball cap and t-shirt. The dealer paid full KBB trade (rated as good) in value for my car which was not worth much in the first place (3k), so that may have helped the deal since they could resell it for another 2k profit, if I sold it I think I could have done 1k better then there trade in offer, it was a piece of crap and I did not want the next owner coming to me to complain. |

http://www.daveramsey.com/etc/lms/drive_free/player.cfm Ok to sum up the argument 1/3 of car buyers sigup for a 6year loan at an avg of 9.6% interest - ACK, what of the other 2/3rds? APR can be had for 1/2 of this that is if you finance at all a 25% hit off the lot is not bad considering these are 25% off to begin with They argue that after 4 years it looses 75% of it's value - strongly disagree, more like 40-50 They say keep in a mutal fund ad gain the stock market avg of 12% - ha ha ha this only applies to those who finance and trade in recklessly. One shoud always consider thier positon entering and have an exit stragety - mine is to keep a new vehicle for about 8-10 years. The added saftey features may keep us out of an accident and keep the insurance premium down. |

Okay - to brag and maybe hype up Mazda - 1993 Ford Probe (mostly Madza guts) - 258,000 miles - MINIMUM maintenance and problems - and car is STILL running strong - the only parts starting to show wear are the crappy Ford parts (body)... Best car I every had - wish they still made em.... Next one will for SURE be a Mazda (rather then the POS Pontiac I have as a 2nd car) |

Well, I had a 04 V6 6 for three years. The transmission had shifting problems even though dealer claimed it was nothing. Didnt' want to have a transmission replacement after warranty so sold it before the warranty went out. Oh and this was a known issue for that model year until they changed to the 6-speed transmission in '05. |

Sad story for mazda
text Argh...that is sad, especially considering someone died on the salvage mission trying to right the ship. An EXCELLENT read if you haven't heard about this - sorry for the OT, but I can assure you you won't regret it. I drive a 1993 Mazda with 170K miles to work every day and I haven't had a single significant problem with it. I would never recommend or not recommend a car based on the experience of ONE SINGLE experience. That's ludicrous. Those that try to "warn" people because they had a bad experience are ignorant and you shouldn't waste your time with their posts. I work in a GM plant and I know how you evaluate the quality of a vehicle, and it's not because one person had a transmission issue. |
