Certainly no a hot deal as it's MSRP You can find it soon everywhere and I doubt it will be out of stock any sooner. And you can put in a larger HD easily.
To me, the $499 80GB w/MGS4 and BC was better deal to me as I own the old Xbox but not a PS2. In contast to what the Sony top guy said "who bought a PS3 already had a PS2", now I can finally play those old but good PS2 games I like.

Does it invalid the warranty?

Yeap, this 80GB is not the same 80GB you would have found last month.
Basically, Sony is removing PS2 compatibility from all PS3 models from now on. And reduced number of USB ports from 4 to 2, and no multi memory card port.
For people who don't own or don't plan on playing PS2 games, it's not an issue. Only thing is USB ports. If you plan on using 3rd party controllers, ie Nyko wireless pads (on sale for $14.99+SH now, see my post), or racing wheels, you'll need a USB hub if you have more than 2 devices.

Does it invalid the warranty? Of course. Do you really think you can buy a product, open it up, change components, and still have a valid warranty?

Well, the manual does tell you how to change the drive out? I'd be surprised they Sony voided the rest of the system because you increased the size of the HD.
This unit seems like a 40gig replacement with the 2 ports. I've heard there's another, higher line unit in the works. The main advantage of these units is suppose to be it has more efficient chips and will use less electricity and thus less heat, which means less fan noise... hopefully, since my 60gig version is pretty loud.

BS! You do not have to open the PS3 to change the hard drive. Have you ever even looked at one? In addition, Sony allows customers who wish to do their own in-warranty replacements of their PS3 hard drive without having to send the unit back to them. However You still might want to hold on to your original PS3 hard drive in case you have in-warranty hardware problems with your PS3 so you can replace you upgraded drive with the original one before sending it back. Sony nearly always does a complete system swap out vs an actual repair so chances are good you would not get your original system with the upgraded hard drive back.

You can sign up for the Sony CC on Sony Style and get $150 off your first purchase. I just did that and after the $150 is applied to the card I'll have paid ~$284 shipped for the 80G.

Yeah it takes 5 minutes to swap the drive. here's a tutorial..
Get a quiet 320GB 2.5" drive like this WD Scorpio and you're set.

This system is currently selling at Bestbuy.com for $399.99.
Circuit City / Sears are still selling at $499.99, possible 110% PM opportunity.
Thanks!Nope -- buy one from Monoprice (I ordered the network, HDMI 1.3, and USB charging cables from there a couple days ago)
thoutman said: Will the NYKO Infrared Remote Control work with this new 80GB model? (Will it work the old 80GB model?)
I am receiving one for my birthday and rreeeaaaalllly want to use my HARMONY 880 with it.
Thanks!PS3 has no built in infrared sensor (the controllers and Sony remote are bluetooth)
The Nyko remote comes with a USB infrared adapter that you just plug into to the PS3 and it should work right away -- you can program universal remotes to work with that
From AVS Forums: "Can I use my Harmony (or other learning universal) remote with the PS3?
Only if you use a IR adapter. The least expensive solution is the Nyko BD remote (sold by Amazon.com and others) that includes a simple IR remote and a IR receiver that simply plugs into one of the USB ports on the front of the PS3 console. This solution is limited in that it cannot be used to turn the PS3 power on, but it provides basic disc playback functions (note the Nyko remote can be used to turn off your PS3 by stopping disc playback, then navigating on the XMB to "Users" then selecting "Turn Off System"). The Nyko PS3 remote is now listed in the Harmony data base so you can easily use only the IR-to-USB adapter that is included with the Nyko remote and program your Harmony remote to control BD/DVD playback on you PS3"

JATAN-
Thanks for the informative post! I worded my question incorrectly, but got the answer I was looking for. I see Circuit City has that NYKO Remote/Adpter for $19.99, so I'll get that soon in preperation!
Now, what are these other cables you bought? (I LOVE Monoprice by the way!!) I have some HDMI 1.3 cables from them. Will they work alright, or do they need to be PS3 specific?
Tell me about the other cables you bought? (and why?)
KJW said: jatan1986 said: There is no PS3 specific HDMI 1.3 cable -- any cable will work
I bought a network cable since my router is close to my TV (I prefer a wired connection over the wireless since its faster)
I also bought a USB A to mini-B 5pin cable since people online were saying that the included charging cable was kind of short
Where did you get the longer USB cable? Any particular site have good prices?Monoprice -- I order all cables I need from there

sorry to impose, Jatan1986, but which cable do I need to recharge my PS3 controller?? the prices are great, and I assume I need a "A to mini-B" cable. But do I need 4 pin? 5 pin? 8 pin?
