Give me green Puhllllzzzz Linky
I bought it for $569 during tax free weekend at CircuitCity But this one is a deal now. I am going for a prie match today. I feel those who are looking for a low budget high performance laptop can go for it. I am totally satisfied with the performance.

here are the details (Please do not forget to give me Green, if you find it worth a Green)

Mid-size laptop: The Acer EX5620-4801 is a mid-size laptop, with above-average processing power and everything most people need for basic computing, entertainment and online communication. This model has premium features including powerful dual-core processing, a double-layer DVD drive, a built-in webcam and Windows Vista Home Premium.

Dual core processing: The 1.86GHz Intel Pentium Dual Core T2390 processor has two processing engines that work in tandem, providing much more power than traditional 1.86GHz single-core models.

This laptop features 3GB of DDR2 system memory—enough for all but the most demanding users, gamers and multimedia professionals. DDR2 is slightly faster than DDR, the previous standard in system memory.

Data travels to the processor along the frontside bus. The faster data travels, the faster everything works. This laptop features a 533MHz frontside bus.

Processors search for the same data over and over. L2 caches keep this data neat, organized, and nearby so it can be retrieved more quickly. This 1MB cache gives the processor a little boost.

Hard drive: This hard drive features a 250GB capacity—perfect for robust collections of music, movies and multimedia. This drive’s data disks spin at 5400rpm. The faster they spin, the faster the data is read and written.

Built-in wireless N: Built-in 802.11g wireless LAN gives you a fast connection to a wide range of networks and peripherals.

DVD SuperMulti drive: Use this drive to burn DVDs and CDs to share your files, music mixes or home movies. You can even burn DVD-RAM discs—specially-formatted discs that let you drag and drop, or write and rewrite your files up to 100,000 times.

Widescreen display: This laptop features an Acer CrystalBright™ 16" high-definition widescreen TFT LCD display with 1280 x 800 pixel (WXGA) resolution.

Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) with SP1: Windows Vista Home Premium is the operating system for homes with advanced computer needs. And Vista Premium features the elegant new Aero interface. You’ll be able to use your laptop more effectively and enjoy new entertainment experiences—all with the benefit of added security and reliability.

Audio/video: This laptop features Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 with 384MB of total available graphics memory. This video memory is perfect for everyday activities like casual movie watching or gaming. Built-in Acer Tuba CineBass Booster and optimized 2nd Generation Dolby Home Theater Audio provide compelling 3D sound.

Media card reader: Seamlessly transfer images from your digital camera or camcorder. This 5-in-1 reader is compatible with Secure Digital, xD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO and MultiMedia Card.

ExpressCard/54 slot: This laptop supports ExpressCard, an emerging standard in smaller, faster PC card solutions. This slot is also compatible with ExpressCard/34—use it to add memory, graphics upgrades, security devices and more.

Built-in webcam/mic: Stay connected to family, friends or business associates wherever you go. Video chatting face-to-face is easy with the built-in Acer Crystal Eye webcam and microphone.

Software bundle:
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit) and Microsoft Office Ready SP1
McAfee Internet Security (with 60 days of live update)
Acer Empowering Technology
Acer Crystal Eye
Acer GridVista
Adobe Reader
Cyberlink PowerDirector trial version
NTI Media Maker

There is a CashBack of $150 if you signup for comcast internet. I saw the ad in the store at perimeter mall Atlanta. I guess this is nationawide.

Be careful with the $150 Comcast rebate. When I signed up, only $75 rebate printed out. After wasting so much time, the store manager pointed to the fine print that said "up to $150 rebate." That fine print was barely readable w/o a magnifying glass.

The Staples Acer also has ATI graphics, which I'm guessing are better than the Intel X3100? Can that make up for the HDD and 1GB RAM, as well as teh Core 2 Due versus AMD?

might depend on how sensitive you are to price. For the laptop I need, the $450 does everything just fine, so I'd rather spend $50 less, but I suspect if you might need more functionality, the $50 is money well spent - 1GB of ram, 130GB HD, and the processor probably add up to $50 of value ...

The ATI graphics (X1250) in the EX4420 are not really any faster than Intel graphics (X3100) in the EX5620. They both are OK for running Vista Aero, but neither one does well playing cutting-edge games or for "full-HD" playback.

The EX4420 has a 14.1" screen - a smaller form factor. That's the main advantage over the EX5620. If you want a slightly more compact system and a tad less weight, the EX4420 is a fraction lighter than the EX5620.

The EX5620 has a slightly faster CPU, 1GB more RAM, and 130GB more HD space. It also has a PCMCIA slot, which is missing from the EX4420.

For the long haul, the EX5620 is probably a better buy as a budget desktop replacement. The EX4420 is probably better if you have to lug it around all day.

I do see one error in the CC specs - "Built-in wireless N: Built-in 802.11g wireless LAN gives you a fast connection to a wide range of networks and peripherals."

Bzzzzt! The EX5620-4801 doesn't have Wireless N. Only G. Same for the EX4420.

Where is the thread or link about EX4420? I'd like to take a look.

Valid point. However, The processor is Dual core here. But IMHO definitely this one is a go go compared to the AMD one.

I picked up one of these for my Dad a few weeks ago @ $499 and was actually fairly impressed. It's a much better built quality than Acers I've dealt with in the past... Vista crawled (of course), but with a tweaked XP it would fully reboot desktop to desktop in about 45 seconds!

EDIT: Don't forget to go to Discovercard.com and "shop discover" for 5% Cash Back.

Are you sure about the 45 seconds thing? I have Vista on mine and it boots within 20 seconds. Could be because mine is new. However I have installed many softwares which I need for my work and never felt that I made a mistake. Furthermore, For 350 bucks (considering the 150 CashBack) it is really a neat deat.

I just bought an Extensa 5620-@Newegg for $399 a few weeks back. I bumped the RAM up to 2.5GB and that was a nice speed improvement. So I imagine this model's 3GB is even better.

On the CPU, the T23** series cpu is OK, better than a Celeron, but not as fast as the AMD Turion TL-58. It's pretty comparable to the TK-57, or thereabouts. I know it has more cache, but neither one is a speed demon.

Bump the thing up to a T5550 or T5750 (both available on eBay for $50 or so), and you will have a noticeable speed improvement.

I suppose you could do the same with the EX4420...with an AMD CPU if you can find one cheap.

It's a Core Duo, not a Core 2 Duo.....a significant difference!

alert mods

Actually, it's a "Pentium Dual Core". Which is essentially a slightly crippled Core 2 Duo, only 1MB cache instead of 2MB or 4MB.

It's based on the same Merom architecture as the Core 2 Duo.
