I bought this TV as a refurb at Costco for 899 a few months back.
anyone know which real world model this corresponds to?
Not a great price considering the 2008 model routinely goes for 1099 and has been as low as 999 at frys.
Just bought the vizio for 1099 and it dropped to 999, which is a better tv, both are 720p Plasmas....

Panasonic Plasma >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Vizio
Not even close.
This is last year model. Not a hot deal. As Haroldminer mentioned, current model with similar specs sells for $1099 at Fry's.

I doubt if there is a major difference between last year's model and the current one.

Costco has a better return policy and an extra year on the warranty. Just my $0.02.
True but Panny's have some of the best quality ratings around. the chances of needing to use that warranty in those first years is slim to none. I'd rather pocket the money and fatten my wallet!

Id rather have peace of mind than an extra eleventeen dollars in my pocket. 1 year warranty from costco, plus extra year waranty from AMEX. not to mention the return policy costco has. no one can even compare. nuff said
I am looking for a Plasma with upconversion. Is this something that is mentioned in the specs or is it considered standard? If included is it automatic or does it have to be turned on in settings?
Thanks.

I know DVD players with upconversion, never seen it in TVs.

No one argues on the benefit of buying from Cosco, but price-wise, it's still not hot.

Costco gives you a 2 year warranty, btw.
This is last year's 720P 50" model that is a great set. If you are hung up on resolutions, this isn't 1080P and may not be "great". Having seen this one and the 1080P version from the same year, I wouldn't think twice about buying it. This thing looks great with cable/sat, SD DVD and Blu-ray. Nice size, great price, excellent picture quality.
This is the model with the anti-glare coating. Some folks think this makes the image look dull when there is bright light in the room. It does diffuse any light and has no mirror like reflections common on Plasma sets. I like the coating, makes the Plasma better for daylight viewing for me... and is a non-issue when evening arrives.

Agree..ever see a visio at costco ...when new..great..after a month on 12 hours a day..its loses contrast big time...panasonic..still shines strong.
its not the screen....although that is important..its the electronics that convert your signal to a good image....not all electronics are equal.
does panasonic make lcd...or dlp...I dont know..they make a bunch of plasmas..and they know how to make a plasma

Yes, panasonic makes LCD's but only in the 32" and 37" sizes currently.
