Ripped from Bens. Seems like a good deal.

Won't let me remove the monitor. Am I missing something, or is this dead now?

Well lets see now...OP made the original post on 8/26...today is 9/7. Well yes, maybe, just maybe the deal is dead now. But I do see this unit at EPP site and the monitor can be removed.

Does the 530N use the same motherboard with both the E2180 and Q9300/Q6600?

In other words, could you put a quad-core processor in this later?

You sure? shows integrated pci express

alert mods

yes thats what i was wondering cos to upgrade it from E2180 to Q9300 add 310$ BUT from Newegg a brand new retail Q9300 kit is only 260$, Dell just unreasonably raised Q9300 prices

alert mods

You can add a 24" monitor to it for $240, that makes it a hot deal.

alert mods

how do you buy it from EPP? I thought you have to have retail email address..

alert mods

I think u have to be from a company they have a partnership with

alert mods

I can buy it for you

But + 29.99 S/H

so about 580$ to ship to ny for q6600 and mem upgrade to 4gb

Can you rewrite the OS Ubuntu with Windows XP or Vista on this machine?

The answer is no.

The 530 series uses a custom Dell OEM FoxConn motherboard.
For all versions EXCEPT the Quads, the 530's come with a G33M02 -- which has 6 populated voltage regulators.
For all Quad core units, the 530's come with a G33M03 -- which has 11 populated voltage regulators.

To prevent damage/problems, the G33M02 is hardwired to refuse to start if the VID settings on the processor exceed it's rated capability. In essence, the G33M02 is incapable of accepting a Q6600 -- period.

Additionally, the Quad versions come with a 350W (typically a Lite-On) power supply and the others come with a 300W (typically Bestec or ACBel).

Yes, Vista or XP can be installed on this system. I am sure that drivers would not be too hard to find. Probably right at the Dell support site for Inspiron desktops.
