If you are confused by the models, here is the lineup: |
the 8800 GT is not as good as the GTS...guanglin pretty much messed up all of that. "8800 Ultra > 8800 GTS 512 > 8800 GTX > 8800 GT > 8800 GTS 640 > 8800 GTS 320" It should be: 8800 Ultra > 8800 GTX > 8800 GTS 512 > 8800 GTS 640 > 8800 GTS 320 > 8800 GT |

How is the 8800 GT, which has 512 mb memory and made with the newer G92 core, slower than the 8800 GTS that only has 320 mb memory and is made with the older G80 core? It is well documented that the newer G92 core 8800 GT is faster than both 320 mb and 640 mb versions of the older G80 core 8800 GTS. Guanglin is right. |

As far as my own personal testing I've seen positive results towards the GTS *shrug* |
ryanfx said:As far as my own personal testing I've seen positive results towards the GTS *shrug* I know it sucks to have over-paid for the old 8800 GTS - but living in denial doesn't help. The 8800GT pretty well stomps the old GTS series, mine beats the once almighty and expensive 8800GTX -- I run my 8800GT at 720mhz core, 2000mhz memory - I am just breaking 30 FPS on high setting at 1680x1050 in Crysis, all on a 2.7GHZ old series Athlon X2. Let me know when you can do that with the GTS. The 320MB 8800GTS isn't even playable in Crysis with High settings. Sorry dude, nice try. |

And you seem to have forgotten about nVidia's little QC problem on the G92 chips. They have already taken a $196 million write off on the notebook side and several knowledgeable commentators say the same design problem continues to the G92 standalone cards as well. As to which is faster I can tell you from running Solid Works and Catia which require much higher frame accuracy that the 320bit G80 clobbers the 256bit that this card will be 20-30% faster than the G92. You seem to forget that video rendering, medical imaging, and CAD/CAE don't tolerate dropped frames where as dropped frames don't matter in something trivial such as your games. |

No respectable business would be doing video rendering and imaging on a consumer level graphics card. But either way, the 8800gt still pushes more frames and has more pixel pushing and shading power than the g80. Dropped frames don't happen with a properly configured card, consumer or commercial level. Get a clue, you are destined for red. |
Since you are not smart enough to know the Quadro 4600 is the exact same card as the G80 8800 GTS where the 8800GT is the same as the Quadro 3700 which is a tier below the 4600. The only real difference between the consumer cards and the professional cards is a bios flash to activate features on the professional cards that are turned of by default on the consumer cards through the bios. "I flashed my BFG 8800 GTX card a few weeks ago with the OCed bios that nvbios tweaker posted and I will be damned Well, I went back to the download link he had posted, and found that he had made quite of few more bioes that enabled I would suggest all you CAD power users and read the PDF he posted on how to use the bios. I was able to use the existing geforce MadMaverick Here is the link I followed. " Link I would say at this point you need remedial geology and anatomy to know your posterior from a hole in the ground. " No respectable business would be doing video rendering and imaging on a consumer level graphics card." is the epitome of ignorance given that a bios flash makes it the same card as the Quadro 4600. Here is the link to the Tech Arp guide for the 8800gts to 4600 conversion. The 8800Gt converts to the 3700 a tier lower. Tech Arp NVIDIA GeForce to Quadro Card Guide Tech Arp Quadro guide TechArp You will also find out that the G80 also has 64gb band width to 57.6 gb for your G92 that means it can't handle as close full frame rendering as the G80 which hits the magic 64gb. How does your dunce hat fit? |
