"50% off your first year" means it renews at the higher rate

EDIT: McDealer aka Joe has corrected that - I'm wrong. Your service and rate stays the same as long as you renew. IIRC an earlier deal had a discount for the first year only, this one sounded that way too. Keeping the discounted rate is good news, that makes this a hot deal. If you've been waiting for a deal on budget hosting, this is the deal you've been waiting for - as long as you're planning to get started using it some time in the next several months.

More comments and discussion in the last HostPC thread if anyone finds that useful, pretty much covers the spectrum of opinions. If you want solid budget hosting, HostPC is the best alternative in the opinion of a lot of people.

BTW, IMO it's illustrative to note that Joe didn't say, hey, that is a little unclear, I did say "the first year" - so let me clarify. Because Joe is always right, Joe is never even a little bit wrong. And Joe knows that there's only one way to look at a situation - Joe's way. Joe has instilled this friendly attitude in his staff. (There are some similar opinions in the old thread.) It may just be that's what it takes to run a budget host. But that captures in a nutshell why, despite solid hosting and good prices and decent support - I usually don't send my friends to HostPC. I can deal with that, but I'm not sure I want my friends to.

Any place for other good hosting place, I need regular hosting but no management from me and some hand holding in management because I want to have some apps built e.g. want to host a site like Prosper.com.

I've had HostPC for a while (and am very saisfied with them)... but I believe that price (50% off the plan) is good for as long as you own/renew the account and they will never increase the cost. Maybe someone knows for sure... but this has been my experience. I signed up when they were giving out "double" everything and it's remained the same for a few years now.

I've been using HostPC for 5 years now. Overall I've been very happy with them too. Despite having a team to troubleshoot tickets, Joe (the owner), has even taken time to answer some of my help tickets. I've never had an issue with overcrowding or downtime. Plus the great thing is that when I signed up, I have been able to keep my same plan over the years.

Just a quick note -- look for a telephone number for support. I used to use them, and I couldn't fine one. One time I had a billing problem that shut my wife's business down entirely. Support is internet only. It is frustrating to need to reach somebody NOW and the only way to reach a person is a web form or e-mail.

I switched providers because, when something happens, I want the ability to have a phone number to call and reach an actual person.

If you do not make a living with your web site, HostPC is fine.

If you look on our home page at http://www.hostpc.com - you'll see a "Live Chat" 24/7 that takes you to our techs in real time - and leaves a paper trail for you and us of our conversations so nothing can be misinterpreted.

Actually, we prefer you use Geotrust Certificates - they're seamless to install and work "out of the box" if you need SSL. Geotrusts' are only 14.95/yr. If interested, ask our support team for the link.

Thanks

Also, you can use their IRC chat for quicker responses. I've had hostPC for a number of years, the customer service is top notch.

Thanks for this, I've been in the process of setting up a website for a family business (Christmas Tree Farm!!) and I've had HostPC in the past and I've had nothing but good experiences with them.

This is a great deal. I have been using hostpc for 4 years now I think. I got in on one of their sales a while ago for $17/yr and have always renewed at that rate.. but you are stuck at the old quotas.. so after a few years, you usually want to open a new accounts with a new domain and then later (manually) transfer the domains from the old accts. That's what I am going to do with this sale. They were nice enough to do the transfer for me once.. but I think it was because they "lost" one of my hosting accounts/domains and took a while for them to find it. It was on a decommissioned server and got overlooked because I didn't even notice when it was gone!
