Amazon Dropping Post-Order Price Guarantee Effective Sept 1st in: Consumer Alerts

Ok, it's not hot deal, it's NO deal!

Please don't give me red, I just don't know where to ask about this. I was shocked when I heard this:

"Only orders placed before September 1, 2008 are eligible for a price difference refund under the Post-Order Price Guarantee policy. As of September 1, 2008 we are no longer offering discounts if prices change on our website after you make a purchase."

Just wonder is it true? Anyone asked for refund recently?

where did you see this? Thanks for the notice.

Looks like Amazon is trying to reduce costs. In the process though, they're going to decimate their loyal fanbase.

I already shredded my Amazon VISA card and don't plan to shop at Amazon anymore. It's their right as a business to stop these policies, but it's my right as a consumer not to be a paying customer.

Price guarantee request must be received within 30 days of the date the item was shipped to you.

Item prices that are affected by a promotion such as "Buy one, get one free" are not eligible, unless the same promotion is also offered at the lower price.

Yea, I know. Of course it's on their site now. But the email says "Sep 1". So we need to check on Monday.

even so you always get your way at Amazon. based on the spend level you can get 5-20$ per issue if you waste enough of their precious time.

i'd bet the policy will change stated and they will still honor it if you nag them enough. otherwise they will lose you as a customer and someone that spends $1-10K a year there (got kids!?) they would lose alot of margin for a little give.

It appears that someone received an e-mail when requesting a refund recently with the following message.

"Thank you for contacting us to take advantage of our Post-Order Price Guarantee. I've confirmed that we now offer a greater discount on xxxxx than at the time you placed your order.

Since your purchase shipped within the past 30 days, I've requested a refund of $x.xx to the original payment method used for your order. This amount reflects the difference between the price you were originally charged for the item and the current price offered by Amazon.com. This refund should be processed in the next few days.

I wanted to check this out if it was true. Searched for price guarantee on Amazon and found this page at http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=468502#guarantee. Note that the section where the Post-Order Price Guarantee verbiage should have been is now missing. I will be more cautious of purchasing items from Amazon since their 30-day price guarantee was a major factor in my purchasing decision. My B&M stores have 15 to 90-day return policies depending on the store and item purchased. Plus the price of the same item fluctuates very often, sometimes even on the same day.

I started buying from Amazon years ago because they had good prices and good service. They slowly raised their prices, but I still kept buying because of their price guarantee.

Now, I have no reason to buy from Amazon.

I thought I was unhappy when they blacklisted me yesterday, illegitimately accusing me of nasty things. I'm still mad about those accusations, but I have no reason to be disappointed about not shopping at Amazon anymore.

they'll still have a 30 day return policy, so just return and rebuy, or if you think it's a temporary price change, do a rebuy and return

I was also going to post this, but I just got an email from Amazon stating the same thing after I put in a request for refund due to a price drop.

but some return reasons will only refund price minus cost to ship back.

You STILL have to pay return shipping. Amazon does not pay return S&H unless ythe product is defective/damaged/missing items and if you claim too many of those Amazon will give you the boot.

I don't discriminate against other retailers for not having a price guarantee, but I probably will for Amazon. Their prices are so volatile, I've seen a price drop several times within a week or so after ordering.

It is true, Amazon will discontinue its internal price matching effect the beginning September for new orders. This is all over the Amazon boards and if you got an email from them recently for a pricematch, it will state exactly as the OP.

Agreed. With Amazon you MUST nod your head and fear them like the Gestapo. Else, they will ban and send insulting emails to you (along with spam, even though you wont be a member, you cant be delisted for their spams).
