is that cpu mobo a good deal? 150 seems decent for the quad core and budget mobo... |
i'll thank the first poster at FW. afterall, nobody from SD remotely posted the handy links... |
bbmattt said:is that cpu mobo a good deal? 150 seems decent for the quad core and budget mobo... AMD quad-cores are cheaper on average, but not as fast (even at the same clock speed). Intel's new quad-cores (Q9300, Q9450, Q8200) are priced a lot higher for roughly the same speed and a small amount of power savings. Newegg has the OEM Q6600 CPUs for $180 shipped, with 93% 5-star reviews. The motherboard is actually decent since it uses an NVIDIA chipset; it has decent built-in video and options. But you can always sell the motherboard and drop the net price of the CPU even lower. Also, since it uses a 1066MHz FSB speed (as opposed to the 1333MHz FSB of the newer Intel quad-cores), it can be overclocked VERY EASILY using a small piece of electrical tape (it's called a BSEL mod, Google it). |
Green for posting all the links I suggested earlier That took some work (trust me, I tried). |

And recent 2008 batches are mediocre overclockers at best - don't expect to get them over 3.2GHz easily. |
