Their e-commerce system is done on the cheap (very much in the spirit of their founder), so don't expect account info, shipping status, order history, etc. They're also very, very slow to ship, which makes me wonder if they only get to the post office a couple of times a month.

I am a huge fan of ATK show/Cook's Illustrated books and proud owner of the instant-read thermometer which together provide predictably great results the first time and every time. They also provide shortcuts that work and the ones to avoid altogether. I recently purchased Cook's Illustrated Guide to Grilling and BBQ for my husband; even though he's a very experienced outdoor cook, he was surprised at the practical ideas inside. In fact, he now uses my instant read thermometer for perfectly grilled steaks, rare to well done every time.

Yeah, but in buying from them directly I feel like I'm supporting them. Amazon can make money lots of ways, Americas Test Kitchen can't.

You have to contact them and return it for a refund. I complained to them and they told me it was their policy. I love their products but I buy them elsewhere now.

I've had the same problem, my solution has been to tell them it's a gift (by now, I own most of the titles, so it's believable). That way, they keep me off the list, but it does require an extra call.
