Good deal. I have been keeping up with this model for a while now waiting for a price drop. I have never seen one in person though. Does anyone know if it has the backlit keyboard?

But, the regular price is $1,449.99, only a savings of $200...

Yes but if you compare the specs to other machines, it is really good price. I don't know how Gateway can make money selling their computers so cheap nowadays.

This laptop does not look so good in the picture. The spec is good though, but does anyone have comment about its overal quality in general? Like compare to Lenovo? Well, maybe Dell

hm... must be not a really good deal, since there are not many responses

The specs on this laptop is pretty impressive.
I've seen this in Best Buy and it looks pretty good.
I like the Asus a bit better though, cause 17" is a little too big and way too heavy for a laptop... IMO.

I have the older version of this laptop, the P-6860FX which is basically the same only with a 8800M video card. There probably isn't many responses because its 4am when you post.

That said, this is an awsome deal IMO, I pcked up the old version for the same price with the free $50 game and there is nothing even comparable in this price range. Build quality of the laptop is pretty top notch, had no problems out of it so far. Only downside with the P-6860FX was the screen has bad horizontal viewing, but looks like this model has a new screen thts been upgrded to 1920x1200. $200 savings on this is a steal, and you won't find the price get any cheaper until it goes on disontinue or Black Friday maybe.

Does it match te build quality of a Lenovo? Well how many Lenovo Gaming Laptops are there... none? This is a gaming laptop, through and through, not a small sized business class notebook, comparing it to Lenovo or any other non-gaming laptop is apples n oranges.

Try and find another laptop in this price range that comes with a Core2Duo, 4GB Ram, 9800M GTS w/512mb DDR, 1920x1200 17" LCD, 200GB Sata, DVD Burner, and HDMI output to boot

Just purchased one. Casing is pretty cheap. I had problems with the speaker tabs coming loose. Fortunately since I bought it at brick and mortar, I just exchanged for a new one. I also got a $50 gift card instead of a free game.

Went and took a look at this, seemed pretty nice. Build quality in line with competing Toshiba / HP consumer offerings, fairly solid but with some flexy plastic here and there. Has a bit of a funky orange and black scheme that I have a feeling you'll either really like or dislike.

Strongly considering this but still gun shy about Nvidia offerings. Going to wait a bit and see how it all pans out before buying.

nvidia is the one to get in laptop graphics. ati/amd doesnt make anything comparable in the mobile arena.

Only a savings of 200, but can't someone use the 10%/12% off BB coupon with it?

@ 10% it is 1124.99
@ 12% it is 1099.99

I might be mistaken but I thought this coupon was applicable on notebooks/laptops through the sale.

Coupon:

You better know someone that's new working at BB if you are to have any hope of getting the coupon to work. It's just a standard BB fare, it does not explicitly exclude computers but it does indicate that it's good for Computer Accessories. Chances are much higher that it wont work. That said it doesn't hurt to try. But even if the cashier tries to scan and punch it in, for the amount it'll probably take a manager to over-ride anyway.

The 9800m is probably a die shrink of 8800m so it is likely only be better at energy savings and reducing heat generated but I doubt the performance will be much better if at all. Not sour graping because I have the same 6868FX. Awsome value for what you get. Ignore the naysayers because they lack the capacity to comprehend... At any rate, it's too late now.

A brilliant idea would be to click on the link in the first post in this very thread. It will take you to the product page at bestbuy.com and reveal to you the price.
