Was at the Montgomeryville Mall in Pennsylvania and saw that Tweeter had big advertisements for $500 of gas with the purchase of $999 in merchandise or more. The website doesn't have any advertisement of it, so it may be a local store deal. When you make your purchase they give you the information to redeem your gas cash. Every month you need to submit receipts for gas of $100 and then they will send you a $25 check back for 20 months. A little bit on the time consuming side, but I know FWers will be on top of it. Might be worth checking out if you are already planning a big electronics pruchase. Unfortunately I don't know how wide this deal is or how long it will last.

Isn't Tweeter in the midst of a bankruptcy/liquidation? Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that was announced sometime recently. Kind of a risk if so.

if they're not already going BK, this is the action of someone planning to BK.

According to one nearby tweeters, they are not in BK. They did seem to close about 49 stores and RIF about 650 employees in March 2007

Also

Anybody know for sure?

It's hard keeping track of all the retail electronics companies going out of business, not sure of the status of them personally.

Tweeter emerged from Chapter 11 late last summer as a privately held company under entirely new ownership. At the time, it seemed to be a foreboding move; however, in retrospect, they seemingly dealt with the BK pain just before commercial credit all but dried up. They're now much leaner but still my choice for local big ticket electronics purchases. BTW, they tell me the $500 gas card promo is nationwide.

Whats all this chatter about "BK"?... Hmmmmmmm?

I heard that Tweeter is actually merging with the LARGEST chain, not "BK".

The newly formed company will be called McTweeter's!

I just got the ad in the mail. It's for all tweeters. Seems like alot of work. Submit $100 in gas receipts a month and receive a $25 gas card each month for 20 months. For more info you can go to tweeter.com/freegas. I have purchased from them in the past when they have a competitive price and have always found them to have good CS.

this company is weird...I remember that there was a Tweeter here in california, and all the interior wall are black...every time I went there because I was waiting for someone else, there r no customer...

I will say I've had good luck with their customer service. I bought a plasma from them 2 years ago (for once they were competitivly priced). I had it for 3 months and my 2 year threw something at the screen. It didn't crack, but it put 3 tiny little chips. You couldn't really see them, but I knew they were there and it bugged the heck out of me. I went into the store and was talking to the saleman about it. I told him what happened and he's like

Well that sucks.. I drive a hybrid and don't put in $100+ per month. Could I submit a receipt every 2 months (rollover)?

Sorry, The rest of my message got cut off. He's like, it was probably already there, let's order you a new TV. A week later I go in to swap out the TV and it turns out my model was discontinued. They gave me the next model up at no charge. I was pretty happy.

For more info about $500 in gas rebates go to freebiegas.com and you can read all the info. They are the place to redeem the gas vouchers. They have multiple websites but it is the same offer. The Cerificates can not be bought by the end used. I had recently bought some in quantity to give away along with purchases/services. I am going to use it myself and let you know how it goes.

Catch with the gas rebate is you have to commit to using one gas company, can only use one receipt per day, if you don't use $100 in a month you lose the $25 rebate for that month, you have to mail in the reciepts and voucher 20 times, and there is a $5 fee, refunded with the final voucher. Alot of work but if you are buying $100 of gas per month at the same gas station chain every time it can be worth it.

I've yet to see one of these gas rebate schemes that is not a scam. I have a fraud complaint pending with Consumer Affairs (Florida Department of Agriculture) for the last one. Buyer be ULTRA beware. Not OP's fault, but this is a scam.

Maybe they will merge with Circuit City.
