Good deal. But KAV/KIS still using iswift which abuses the NTFS object ID usage. I will pass.

What's your point? That it takes a long time to scan through network drives? I am not an IT person...please explain what it means for normal users.

My thoughts exactly. The forum is about the deal, not necessarily (or, theoretically, at all) about the merits of the product itself. The user will decide if the product is appropriate for her/himself, thank you.
Thanks OP, missed this last week. How is Kaspersky on their rebates?

It means that if you get affected by this problem, you will be lucky if you can finish a scandisk/chkdsk on your drive at all (many of us couldn't get it to complete at all... and for those who could, it could take several minutes just to get started). And scandisk/chkdsk is something that "normal users" are supposed to be using... not just IT people.
And the best parts? 1) That the problem stays with you even after you fully remove this POS program; and 2) That Kaspersky has been aware of the problem for at least two years but doesn't give enough of a shit to offer any sort of fix. They just blamed Microsoft for not making it impossible for them to use objectid's in a way that it was never intended for.
Supposedly, their newer versions of the program no longer cause this problem. But some/many of us who screwed by versions 6 and 7 will let hell freeze over, thaw, and freeze again before we ever use Kaspersky products again.

Horrible. The only reason I popped in this thread was to warn people of that. They systematically deny rebates as "incomplete", even when you know they were complete, in hopes of weaseling out of paying. The crap they pull should be illegal, but no one takes rebates that seriously (personally, I think they're crooks; it's as bad as if they stole $ right from your pocket). Don't waste your time with them...they don't even send out denial cards asking you to correct the rebate! They just hope you won't notice until the collection window expires.

So if a seller were offering a piece of dog turd for $55 with a $55 rebate and free shipping, you'd consider that a good deal and look down on any discussion regarding the merits of the product itself?

Nope. Not dog turd. Don't really have a need for it. Now, as far as KAV is concerned, I do consider that a good deal, the comments above notwithstanding. You'll always have the naysayers badmouthing a product based on their own experience or agenda. I'd sooner go with the collective opinion of the reputable sources that I read regularly, which suggest that the above may be a countervailing opinion. Not everyone loves every product. But to imply that this particular product is a POS is, in my opinion, a bit of a stretch.

Kaspersky changed rebate houses and rebates are being paid in more timely fashion. I've done 3 in the past 4 months and received email validations on all of them. Last year I had to go to BBB to get one paid.

Heh, I've been running KAV 7 for maybe two weeks. It has been nagging me about doing a full scan, so I finally start one. Mistake... Now chkdsk is useless. I just ordered a competitive package earlier this evening. Will have to do some disk image refreshing to get back to where I was before.
