There are much better devices (more elaborate) than kill-a-watt which is VERY limited in options comparing to competition at the same price level. Do quick search if interested.

I have the newer kill a watt and I looked around before buying it and did not find much comparable at the price. What have you found that is in this price range? The average homeowner really does not need anything too elaborate especially if you are paying 5X the price.

I think this deserves either a red, or some actual examples. Other than the Meritline knockoff, I'm not aware of any other devices in the price range that even have the same feature set let alone more features. The only useful features that the Kill-A-Watt lacks, imho, is the ability to log data, and the ability to work on 220V electrical.

There is a competing product called the "Watt's Up Pro". Unfortunately, the cheapest price I could find on Froogle was $114. Not exactly the same price point as a $20 KillAWatt, and the data logging is pretty much the only advantage.

Lots of red for the best price you'll find for this item... I did a search on Meritline, and found it for $25. I gave you green, OP!

thanks OP.

Here's a listing of some competitor's products.
Nothing in the same price range class though.

Different brand but looks the exact same and cheaper than ops.

Same thing on Amazon $20.10. Free shipping if you get other free ship items to add up $25.

Not sure what the difference between this model and the KillAWatt EZ is.

alert mods

With the EZ, you can program it with your local utility rate, and it figures out the cost within a few minutes. With the original model, you have to leave it plugged in until the KWh increments, and then do the math yourself. For items like refridgerators that draw a variable amount of power throughout the day, you may have to leave both plugged in for 24 hours or so for best accuracy.

I feel the Meritline offering is the deal to beat right now. It's just a lower model than the P3 KillOWatt, and the couple functions it lacks are of little use to the homeowner anyway. Still green for the OP for thinking of us

whats the typical watt measured for desktop with 350w PSU and laptop with 65w adapter?

alert mods

The basic unit doesn't immediately tell you what it costs to run an appliance.

Just plug two of it's numbers on this page and you have it!:

Depends on whether it's running under a load or idle, what processor you have, what chipset you have, how may hard drives you have running, and even then, we still can't tell you. Time to buy a killawatt.

Price to me also seems high (mostly due to shipping). I got one from a posted deal awhile back and I seriously think I spent around $15 with shipping and everything though I'm not 100% sure.
