I got a FNBO Something Visa card about 3 months ago and approved for a $12,000 limit. I used the card two weeks ago to buy a gallon of milk or something and that was the only transaction I made with the card. I got a statement for a balance of less than $4 dollars and paid it when I got it. So today I get a letter in the mail from them and this is what it says.

"We regret to inform you that we have closed your account to further purchases and cash advances. Please destoy any and all cards for the mentioned account. This action was taken due to the following reason(s):

EXCESSIVE INQUIRIES

Our credit decision was based in whole or in part on information obtained in a report from the consumer reporting agency listed below. The consumer reporting agency played no part in our decision and is unable to supply specific reasons why we have denied credit to you. . .... .. .. ... .. etc.."

Has this happened to anyone before ?? These are my I've never done an AOR and my inquiries are TU 5 EQ 2 EX 4 and my FAKOS are all over 780. It's not a big deal to me but what's up with FNBO ??

So which consumer reporting agency did they list? Have you tried calling FNBO to find out what's up? Have you read thru the threads here about adverse action?

It doesn't list any CRA but it says that I can

"request a free copy of my credit report by contacting ICS - Consumer Inquiries Advanced Resolution Services, 6111 Oak Tree Blvd, Suite 400 Independence, OH 44131, 800-392-8911. If you have any questions regarding this decision, please write Cardmember Services, PO Box 2219, Omaha, NE 68172-8604.

Sincerely,

Credit Department"

I haven't contacted them and probably won't, especially since they ask me to "Write" to them about it. If not using the card for 2 months after getting approved, then spending only $4 dollars and pay my bill on time triggers AA then I don't know what to say. Perhaps they only want customers who plan on defaulting, I don't know. Its just funny.

Issuers' Clearinghouse Service (ICS) is a consumer reporting agency. ICS maintains information about bankruptcy, and bankcard fraud, unauthorized use and application information. ICS is a centralized, nationwide database that provides reports to Visa Members that may point to risky consumer behavior. It was developed in 1989 at the request of Issuing Members to help reduce bankcard credit and fraud losses. The Visa U.S.A. Operating Regulations require Issuers to submit information on fraudulent applications and on all consumer credit card applications processed. Ongoing analysis proves that ICS data are significant in predicting account performance, and that ICS offers important, quantifiable loss reduction potential.

1) I suggest you contact ICS and get a copy of the report, just to make sure it's really yours and that there's no funny stuff on it.

2) Reason I suggested reading some of the adverse action threads is that this will probably show up on your credit reports as "closed by issuer" which makes it sound like you did something wrong and might make it difficult for you to get other cards in the future.

You should have maxed it out before they closed it, now they got you. FNBO is known for this.

FNBO also killed my 6+ year-old (dormant) account citing the same reason about a month ago.

This is retarded. I've never even heard of ICS before but after some search here is another recent thread regarding ICS http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/finance/854501

FNBO did a recent report to all three CRAs and the alerts on TC show as "New Account" . When I check the details it still shows as active. I'm behind on this because I was out of the country the past week and just got back yesterday. I tried to use the card on one occasion and it was declined but I just assumed that it was because I was out of the country and didn't notify them first. I'll try to use the card to get gas tomorrow and see if the card is really closed. If the card is still active tomorrow then I'll call them to cancel the card to try and avoid the "Closed at Grantors Request". I'll post an update.

Check your reports. While it seems to be an usual adverse action from the part of FNBO, I recall you had an issue with AmE>< in the past; I hope these are not related.

Sorry to ask but what is FNBO?

It's a division of Google's search engine business.

It seems the issue here is "too many" inquiries on your credit report, which makes FNBO think you are desperate for credit (regardless of the fact that you haven't touched the $12,000 CL on this card). Have you applied for new cards lately, or done anything else that would result in inquiries?

The reason was obviously stated, but if you go back up and read the OP, the amount of inquiries doesn't exactly red-flag me as "desperate for credit".

No relation whatsoever. The AMEX issue I had no relevance to my credit-worthiness or risk. The worst thing that happened was a temporary drop of my credit score which has recovered 75% since then. Even after losing $100k of my total available credit, Bofa, Chase and Citi have very generous to make up for it after that incident.

"The most telling SSN activity threshold is 6 or more applications within 90 days. As many as 75% of accounts that hit this threshold are likely to become bankrupt or charged off."

Do you mean this ?? How do you figure?
