You'll hate them even more if they do come to New England. You'll spend more money and you'll have to deal with the "customer service" that they have. Not to mention the flocks of d-bags that go there.
Not in the ad for LA area, not yet that is ...

Hey! I'm one of those who flock there and although they may have some stuff in there that makes you go "huh? what kind of crap is that?", it's better than most electronic stores. You just have to know when to buy quality and when it doesn't matter that much.
In my opinion, the customer service is better than Circuit City or Worst Buy and they have 30 day price match and return policies (15 days for some electronics & computer items). They also have been very good the past few years in handling rebate issues. I've gotten every rebate they have sponsored, and if there is a little trouble, you just give their rebate customer service a copy of your submission and their corporate office will take care of it.
They will take care of you.....if you don't act act like a d-bag!

Just for your comfort replace "they/we" with I.
I can give you that may be you are good but about 75% of folks at Fry's BM are hopeless even compared to Worst buy or Circus City.

Agreed. I actually met the guy in the local store who is dedicated 100% to managing rebate issues. A young guy I recognized from way back. (He must have started with Fry's when he graduated from kindergarten
. He handled one rebate issue I had without asking questions. Just reached into the register and handed me cash. Said that he had seen other issues with that one manufacturer. Name any other chain which has a rebate issues manager.

Oh dont get me wrong, I love frys. They have a lot of cool stuff - all the electronic test equipment and other things that stores like BB and CC dont even dream of carrying.
Never had trouble with Fry's CSRs - most tech-savvy people will know more than they do, so just go in knowing what you want. OTOH, the CSRs tend to be non-existent when you need to ask where something is located (their product layout is terrible) and when you need to check stock.
Edit: Back to the deal - it's definitely a good price on an older CPU, and you can eBay the board to sweeten the CPU price.
Anybody know if this is boxed or OEM processor?
In the past, whenever I've purchased a CPU/mobo combo at Fry's, it's always been a retail-boxed CPU.

You may be right - I typically purchase a Fry's combo every couple years, and my last one was in April of this year. Guess I've always been lucky to get one with the retail CPU (but back when CPUs came with HSFs that were lackluster, it didn't matter since the HSF got replaced with an aftermarket one anyhow, and warranty is pretty much moot).
I bought one of these today (Sept 4) and it was retail box cpu.
